I didn't read the whole first chapter yet, but it seems to have almost the same story beats as the first chapter of Bleach. Badass saves helpless things from thugs. Has a power related to said things. Has a scuffle with dad. Meets weird character that is suprised by main characters power. character gives an explanation about weird things. Evil guy attacks and mc gets impaled. That is as far as I read, so I'm guessing he gets super powers next?

Somali and the Forest Spirit about a forest golem who takes on the task of escorting and protecting a young human child he finds in the forest, in a world where monsters rule and humanity has pretty much gone extinct or are hunted when they do appear. The artwork is just magical and wonderful, and the story has a sometimes whimsical, but often melancholic feel to it.

Not much good Dowman coming out since Voynich ended, sadly.
