:science: not technically wrong, any nuclear device capable of causing an appreciable EMP will in fact cause a massive problem for the USA/China.

Because we all know the only time nepotism is practiced is when your family members are well skilled in the position you give them.

You'd think Freepers would be fine with the "If someone is poor it's because they don't believe in Jesus hard enough" part of prosperity gospel, but remember some of them are poor, and the reason they think they're poor is because of the government. And even the people they don't like who are poor, they believe are usually poor because they're lazy.

Freep are pre-millennial calvinists at heart. The idea that you can buy salvation or change your fate is completely antithetical to them, because they're the only safe ones in the rapture and everyone whose going to be saved is predestined to do so. Osteen's type of prosperity gospel is basically just old-school Catholic indulgences with a new coat of paint. Megachurches are all about the idea that we should try to save everyone (because that's a much broader pool to skim money off of!), and that's just not something freep-types do, since you'll end up in heaven if you're supposed to be there according to their theology, and having money or not won't pay a role in that, ergo you can support FYGM economic policies guilt-free if they benefit you or argue for fair share if you have no money. Saving people is irrelevant because the good go to heaven, and that's all that matters.

The real irony is that the Christian Right in this country went from Post-Millennial to Pre over the course of the 20th century. They used to be all about trying to save everyone in the 1800s and really up to about Nixon, because the rapture could only come when the world had been made sufficiently good (i.e. after the perfect millennium we all go to heaven). Shifting to becoming Pre-Millennial means that it literally doesn't matter what happens, because the rapture will just occur at some point, and all the good believers go to heaven while the non-believers go through the tribulation-type events that lead to them discover faith the hard way on a hellish earth or never convert and go to hell outright. You can pretty much trace the point where American Christians and the Christian Right start to disengage from the world and create their bubble of only caring for their own to this theological shift. It also coincides nicely with when we started doing the religion of fear/get out of hell free type pitches for new believers, as the point was no longer to do good things and make the world better in hopes of a reward, it was to get raptured before the tribulation so that you weren't one of "those people" being tormented by Satan/the antichrist.

In short, there really are 2 Christian Rights at the moment. The one with actual power is the Freeps of the world who don't give a poo poo if it all burns down since they're part of the elect. That's why they never say no to tax cuts or anything that objectively hurts the world for the sake of helping them, because their effect on the world doesn't matter as part of the elect and means they have nothing to lose and everything to gain because they'll get saved from anything truly bad happening. Then there's the Osteen crowd that gives motivating speeches and gets invited to prayer brunches but ultimately don't have any power, because it turns out that writing checks creates rich pastors and lazy activists who aren't going to bother fighting for their stuff the way Freepers who literally believe they have nothing to lose and everything to gain will. It's not actually that far removed from the same type of sentiment that you see from religious terrorists--world is impure so bad things don't matter because I'm safe and nothing can truly hurt me because I go to the good place. It's that bizarre mixture of personal belief in religious dogma creating a lens of nihlism and apathy towards the state of the world that makes them who they are.

TL;DR: Freep theology says that being rich doesn't inherently mean you're in the elect, nor are you obligated to help the poor because you can't change their eternal fate. Covenant theology only applies in the sense that the true believers get to leave before bad things happen, and any benefits along the way are incidental, albeit totally allowable to fight for.

There's a few non-Christians on Freep I'm sure, but they probably keep quiet about it for the most part. I know there's been mention of at least a couple of Jewish members. I'd even be willing to bet there's a few atheist members. Freep generally only cares that you're praising whoever their current savior is (Trump at the moment) and hate liberals enough, so an atheist Trump supporter would fit in pretty well. If a member fit those requirements but also did things like constantly talk about how God isn't real or whatever, they'd definitely get the zot, but so long as they don't mention it at all or only casually mention it they'd be safe I'd imagine.

The thing that amazes me the most about this, is that it seems like freep was running on a single server, with only one hard drive in a dusty server farm in San Jose because they wanted to rent/own their own server space and maintain it themselves, even with raid they would have been back up by now and I can't even imagine what 'one' of their servers going down means. Was it the only one?

The Freep-a-Thon last year raised 90k per quarter. It was about 350k for the whole year.

This might be outdated, but in 2009 or so Jimrob was getting a lot of flack and posted the budget breakdown for Freep. About 90% of it went to Jimrob and his family and the other 10% still had extremely suspicious amounts for things that went to Jimrob and his family like "Travel" and "taxes."

The breakdown was:

JimRob - 140k for administration
John - 110k for "programming" and maintenance.
Ann (John's Wife and JimRob's daughter-in-law) - 25k for clerical services.
Hosting Costs and Server Storage Fees - 35k
"Taxes" - 25k
Travel (for appearances at Tea Party and Tax Day rallies in 2009) - 14k
Legal Fees - 18k
Security Monitoring Software - 12k

Total: 379k

I think Freep was more profitable back in 2009, but Jimrob has steadfastly refused to itemize costs ever again (that I am aware of) since then and just started zotting people who ask why hosting costs so much.

No, I don't think so. Cap represents Freedom and the American Way, so he's popular among conservatives despite the fact that he's a New Deal Democrat created by a guy who had the same politics. The more savvy hardliners know that adopting a character created by two Jews, one who actually fought in WWII is a huge troll. Nobody but the absolute dorkiest cares about what's going on in a storyline that is pretty solidly hated by everyone regardless of politics.
