I strive to put my finger on that leader of britain who wasn't white, but I can't do it.

Meanwhile we elected then reelected a black man named Barack Hussein Obama as President of the United States of America.

The current president insisted for years that he was born in Kenya lol

I'm 99% sure it was in the UKMT years ago, the writers had tried to be clever and it was "so and so tries to spear Chuka" or something along those lines. Lemme see if I can't find it.

It was back when Obama was still president and I remember being aghast at it.

This is really funny but also over playing your hand. Still good for some bites because Thatcher inspires that sort of kneejerk reaction among British people with a conscience but it's the use of objectively that's a dead giveaway.

Because everyone knows that Maggie is only objectively best if the metric is "quantity of human suffering created while in power".

She made a lot of tough decisions that had to be made, and they paid off down the road for the UK. Then all that was accomplished was squandered by Labour.

so this one time the United States occupied a strange and foreign land and sought to bring democracy through military government; in the face of gross human rights violations committed by American soldiers, growing anti-war (and anti-draft) sentiment at home, and a massive campaign of terrorism and armed insurgency enjoying broad local support, the government instead sought exit with honour and wrote-off the lives of its onetime harki supporters, who would of course be subject to terrible retribution whilst those who had clutched their pearls so hard about the draft riots found plentiful reasons to look away

I find myself on the side of "well the Radicals should have shot more terrorists, really, then maybe it wouldn't have had another century of horrific ethnic supremacy", but it's worth reflecting upon what this really means in a contemporary sense

who in Lisbon weeps for the incredible brutality of post-decolonisation violence? it's really easy to blame your local political opponents for having put one in such a sticky situation to begin with, of course, but the reality is one of preferring impassioned debate over principles to anything that would actually spare millions of lives

not really, US suburban municipal politics was at that stage two decades ago

eventually the people enraged that libraries spend their money on line item X figure out that the only way they will stop the moral outrage of X is to sacrifice libraries in toto for themselves and their own children, and they reconcile themselves to that sacrifice

and then it turns out that a protest largely by librarians against library administrators - literally card-carrying members of the intelligentsia both - has a very different power dynamic from kulturkampf at large

A country choosing to leave a political union because it wants to flood that country with hundreds of thousands of migrants basically destroying the working and lower middle class and usurp its sovereignty having control over its laws and courts is worse than a country that has real issues with its police force blowing away minorities in the middle of the street because of racial stereotyping

I legit come here for UK pol chat. And I legit cannot see how anyone in the UK can take Corbyn seriously. The manifesto was more pie in the sky then most party manifestos and their hopes of getting elected basically hinges on getting 16 year olds the vote.

Yes, the problem is definitely Corbyn's proposed manifesto, full of policies that are actually popular with a majority of the British public.

Probably best sticking to the ironic Nazism in GBS.

It's not good but as lovely as the SWP are they are still a total loving irrelevance and not worth losing a second of sleep over.

The actual problem is that Labour MPs have spent 2 years convincing the public that Corbyn is unelectable, and have done a very good job at it.

Rather glossing over the fact that around half of those killed in the US Civil War were fighting for the continued existence of slavery.
