Consular is my highest level Pub character at the moment and I actually really like their storyline so far. :shobon: It's cool to play a Jedi as an actual archaeologist and diplomat, and I find it kinda funny how after Act One you're just casually carrying an assload of people around on your ship. Qyzen is a really unique companion, too.

I've played Jedi Consular and Imperial Agent in that order, both were fun in their own way and interesting. Story definitely gets mediocre after the individual class stories end.

Sith Warrior played to full Dark Side points is cartoonishly evil and rather dull.

LS Sith warrior owns.

Agent is great as a contrast to the big dumb Jedi arcs. Sith and Jedi are loving everything up for everyone else and that story calls it out the best.

The Bounty Hunter story does this pretty good as well. Agent gets a little tiresome for me with how it beats you over the head with it to make sure you get the point.

Edit: I mean yeah the Agent spends the first chapter bemoaning the Sith (nevermind the capable Sith like Vowrawn and Marr) if that's your choice but then spends the next two chapters dismantling the organization who's sole purpose is getting rid of Sith/Jedi fuckery. Meanwhile the Bounty Hunter spends the last two chapters getting personally hosed over by both Jedi and Sith.

You owe it to yourself to play Light Side Sith Warrior. It is so much better. Normally Bioware games treat the Light and Dark side as two complete extremes, where the light side is lovey dovey and Dark is carefree cruelty, right.

Well it is that way for a lot of the stories, like Jedi guardians and consulars. Sith Warrior's lines and actions are completely different. Instead of murdering that sith lord like all sith do, you basically tell the guy "Okay, you work for me now, and I need you to be there when I play my hand." You're more inclined to give out a second chance, because just murdering a subordinate or a weaker rival is less manpower in the empire.

Instead of adopting some sort of "I don't kill" policy which goes out the window in an MMO, light side warrior adopts a completely different ideology, Strength absolutely matters, but there is Strength in numbers and unity. As far as I know, the only Sith Lord that has a similar outlook is Darth Marr.

You also do get more content by doing lightside sith warrior as opposed to the rest of the cast, because your actions influence whether you get a Light sided or Dark Sided companion at the end of Act 1.

Apparently if you are Light 1 or higher, you cannot get her Dark side. This is old info though, and may have been changed.

But you can get Light side regardless. Yes even if you slaughtered everyone she's ever known.

Nerd Of Prey

This is also something I've repeated many times but: Dark side smuggler is significantly better. Light side smuggler is just an errand boy for the Republic and ends with a fizzle. Dark side smuggler is taking sweet revenge on every fool who ever crossed you and slowly building a criminal empire. The difference in quality is pretty significant.

I think Bounty Hunter might be divisive because it's not as much of a power fantasy as most others... you really do get kicked around a lot. But it's a great scrappy underdog story in my opinion. It's way more Firefly than Star Wars. It's you and your ragtag group of friends against the whole galaxy, just trying to make a space buck and live another day. Also I think the story works a lot better on every level if you keep Mako with you the whole time. Whether you're a male character playing the love story, or a female character palling around with your best friend, Mako and the bounty hunter get a lot of good scenes together.

Agent shouldn't be played as a first character if only because his/her storyline come chronologically at the end of all the class storylines, so it really brings all that stuff to a head along with having the most variety and choose in endings.

Playing it first will spoil all the other storylines.

It's blurry in the middle, but Bounty Hunter and Trooper are the first two, in that order. I believe Sith Warrior is toward the end, if not the second to last, as is the Consular.

I'd agree with that yeah. At least play warrior or inquisitor first so that you can appreciate the new perspective of sith politics that you get from the agent POV.

I would also say to make sure that you do sith warrior (and maybe inquisitor too) before Jedi knight because there's something in the JK story that'll make you feel real dumb in the warrior story and it helps if you don't know about it

Counterpoint: the SW story actually takes place after the JK one, or at least it ends after the JK one.

A lot of stories overlap throughout the first acts, but their Act 3s have a specific order.

ranks 1-89 will give 230 gear max, then tier 2 90-179 for 236 gear, 180 and up for 242 gear. But even if you do easy story mode operations the bosses drop tokens for 236 gear.

Two things to add -

The chances of getting a useful (Artifact or Legendary) piece increase the higher up in Command Rank for that tier you are - A box at Command Rank 1 has a much lower chance of dropping a set piece than Command Rank 80.

At rank 300 you hit Tier 4, which is *guaranteed* to drop a Prototype or higher grade piece of gear with every box. And even the Prototype (Grade 244) blue armor pieces are set pieces. So while running Operations is the best way to gear, there is an advantage to focusing on one character and getting them to 300 if you want to main them as you'll get full high end set bonus pretty quick.

With the caveat that the 244 blue pieces have the lettered stat distribution so they'll be downgrades from 240-242 Artifact gear for just about everyone.

My Sorc hit complete 248's around the equivalent of Command Rank 550 and that was buying the MH/OH with Unassembled Components.

Good point, I forgot to mention Armorings only. The Enhancements are good though.

It should also be again reiterated that high end gear is only necessary if you're doing high end content. If you're just doing dailies, heroics and Story Mode raiding, Tier 1 set gear is more than enough for anything.

Trooper would have been cool if they did more to make you feel like you're part of this grand army/fleet that the republic apparently has. But instead, with limited exception, every mission is you and a friend taking on the empire by yourself, just like every other class.

It'd have been better if they had more set piece missions like the finale, where other forces are doing things alongside you, but I guess that's hard or whatever

Nerd Of Prey
Aug 10, 2002

The warrior has a section where they have to assign members of their team to carry out different parts of a mission, and you'll have varying degrees of success depending on who is assigned to what job. The trooper should have had a lot more scenes like that, since you're supposed to be leading a squad.

I've been enjoying Bounty Hunter, Imperial Agent, and Sith Juggernaut- and I honestly think the Jedi Counselor's pretty fun, too. I'm still in Act 1 for all of them, but of the stories I've been trying out, the Trooper feels the most predictable and a little bit weak so far. I assume things pick up significantly in Act 2 overall, but I'm jumping back and forth so much and enjoying all the different classes.

Admittedly, I don't feel quite as loving busted now that the leveling curve has returned to normal, but that was too good to last :allears:

It's weird to see people complain about male voice acting, and not have it be about the consular. Terrible voice, awful meandering story, the worst companions; consular has it all.
