I just stick with the engineer personally. Overload with all the area / target buffs can chain stuns halfway across open air maps, and sacrificing your tech combos somewhat, to get the turret proximity buff means you can spam it at a respectable rate. :science:

She gets better once you fill out the Rage tree to give you Rage at low health, but a lot of other folks just embrace the squishiness and go 6/6/6/6/0. The Rage tree doesn't do much until you get that talent too, since you don't really want to be meleeing as the Engineer.

I have an Angaran Avenger 6 that I have never touched. I really dislike the cloak/stealth grid classes, even more than I disliked them in ME3.

In contrast, my favorite class in MEA is the Human Soldier, because there is nothing that fucker cannot do. ME3 Human Soldier was not quite as good because Turbocharge > Adrenaline Rush. I just hope that Vorcha Soldier makes a comeback one way or the other.

If you do this build on gold, you better host every single game you play. I ended up going back to 6 in throw 1 in lance because I don't want to tack 5-10 minutes onto the time it takes every game to start just so I can be completely lag free. Stray bullets from anywhere totally gently caress you all the time with her tiny shield pool. Honestly, with throw on a 5'ish second cooldown, lance and melee to break up the periods between cooldowns, she's still a constant combo machine, and much much safer. CAVEAT: The shield-powered lance build makes you feel like a loving superhero on bronze and silver. It's the coolest thing.

edit: I keep calling lance 'warp', oh what could have been :(

I hate the shield powered lance build on gold for this exact reason. If you get some porn torrenting host, you rubberband, lance misses, you lose half your shields, lance again, lose the other half. It miraculously hits this time, killing a mook so you get a third of your shield back. Biotic link is on internal cooldown, lance misses again. gently caress this poo poo.

I stopped using biotics in singleplayer because my biotic combos were regularly flinging bodies so far away that I couldn't loot them. That or I'd fling a guy way the gently caress away and he'd survive and I'd have to go find him to complete "kill all the kett".

I've kind of been considering respeccing my adept to go max recharge on throw instead of the shield driven lance. Especially with guns actually being usable now it seems like it might be a good way to go.

I am dubious of the lance setup on the asari adept because to be as good as it can be, it needs the shield restore in annihilation field 6, and you should seriously be taking the floaty field instead

When the shield lance build is working like it should, that's a trade-off 100% worth making, because you're a loving biotic machine gun. But between the squishy shield, accurate enemies, and lance being a real fucker to actually get to connect with targets... Nah. At least I haven't had lance pass harmlessly through an enemy's chest since the patch, even during a laggy game. Shoot off in weird directions, sure, but that's always happening.

After using it in both the silver and gold 800% bonus ammo missions today, with the extra ammunition equipment, I think the Thokin could use some more spare ammo. Like, if it had been my only gun, I'd have been dry on wave 5. Wave 4 if things got really hairy and I needed to do most of the shooting. It sure is a lot of fun though! Kind of like a Revenant that hits things! I really need to get the Ghost so I can have a full auto that has some semblance of accuracy. Trying to save up to do a streak of expert packs since supposedly buying consumable packs fucks up your 10-in-a-row guarantee'd ultra-rare. It's hard though, I just want to open some boxes :(

Do you have an X? Ammo capacity is the most strongly affected by weapon leveling (and I suppose increased damage reduces the amount of ammo you use too)

IME the Ghost is inaccurate as gently caress. Like its at a midway point between a Revenant and the Avenger.

It may be a bad gun, but I have way better luck feathering bursts with an Avenger than I've had with the ghost. Unless getting it to rank X gives it a bonus to accuracy or something I might legit stick with Avengers for the characters I have them on.

You are aware that the gimmick of the ghost is that it becomes more accurate as you fire it right?

Look at the reticle when you start shooting, it shrinks, its why it has such a huge magazine.

Just look at this as an opportunity to use one of those 200-300 ammo reserve consumables you're sitting on (don't lie, we all have them!).

A single one will refill your ammo and power cells all the way back to 800% full in those missions.

What's up with the lighting changes in the latest patch? Were there always two lighting variants of sandstorm and I was just really lucky/unlucky to always get the noon-like map? It's always dusk now and the lighting change threw off my idea of map geography more than I thought it would?

Does the lighting change depending on the time of day of the player? I was playing more at midday in the 1.05 era.

I asked that a while ago and I haven't heard a single other person even mention it, I'm guessing we were both weirdly lucky and only got non-dusk Sandstorm until last week.

It occurs to me how crazy it is that I have one character at level 20 (AsAdept), a couple around levels 17-19, and then everyone else is between 9 and 16. Even with XP boosters leveling is slow as gently caress unless you just focus on one character.

They added the dusk version of sandstorm in one of their weekend apex missions (the first one with pizza delivery I think?) and then it started appearing in normal games on that map.

It's more like a sidegrade to the Mattock. More damage per shot, but a smaller clip and much slower rate of fire; it has perfect accuracy from cover though - the tiny bit of bloom it gets is completely reset by the next time it can fire. Mattock feels a LOT better to use, primes better (don't use either for priming though), but the Halberd has its place. Granted, that place is "basically the sandstorm but not forced to use a scope", but there you go.

Owl Inspector
Sep 14, 2011

It's not really an upgrade because unlike the mattock, they didn't fix its fire rate so it shoots at nowhere near the 5 shots per second that its stats say it should. I still wouldn't use either one on gold.

tooterfish
Jul 13, 2013

Soldiers can make the Mattock work okay, with the extra magazine mod it has enough rounds to exploit sustained fire quite well.

Although, the same caveat as in ME3 applies. Autofire macro or repetitive strain injury, pick one.

Edit: So, trip report, I like it. Without the individual button presses it feels essentially like a generic assault rifle--it's honestly about the only one that that I've found that does outside of the Avenger, the Revenant feels more like an LMG--lots of bullets, terrible accuracy, haven't gotten the ghost to try it, and most of the others have gimmicks of some sort.
