Andretti's guys had a long night apparently. I'm surprised they needed to change the whole engine out for a hit that light but they must have found something. All the way down to the tub and all the way back up in 12 hours. https://twitter.com/MichaelShankRac/status/864501792989741057

Yeah, he was keeping up with Helio, so he's definitely adjusted to a high speed oval vs a road course. This is going to be a good race.

Woo, racecontrol has no-tow speeds shown today.

Also, I love the 98 logo on the camera mounted below the rotating one.

if Alonso retires due to engine failure we'll never have to worry about the 500 again because his transformation into a supernova of rage will consume Indiana

Either Will Power is testing fuel consumption or he's lost power and is the most snake-bitten driver I've ever seen.

Low drag sidepods starting to make an appearance. 1 on the left side for Ed, and 1 on the right side for Will. Generally what they do is a mini qual run everytime they decided to crack a new set of tires. They get 15 sets for the week, and with bad weather expected after tomorrow, they should be burning a good number of sets the next two days. The grind for the mechanics is that everytime they decide to use a new set, the car goes back to the garage, qual setup goes on (springs, damps, sidepods, wickers, etc all changed), they run 6 laps on the new set of tires... then its back to the garage, back to race setup, and use the rest of the tire. Repeat.

Harvey is still trying to do the last phase of his ROP, but it looks like the car is the thing holding him back. I guess Marco took out the #50 earlier and couldn't crack 215, either. Does it count towards your ROP if you get the last phase while the boost is turned up? I hope it doesn't come to that.

Alonso is sure as hell not scared of that inside line. Seems to be keeping it a reasonable distance from the wall for now. Unlike Aleshin. IOwnCalculus fucked around with this message at 22:49 on May 16, 2017 |

Indycar.com has a talk with Letterman. There's nothing really noteworthy about it other than it being David Letterman talking about Indy, but I giggled at this bit:quote:“I remember when Jochen Rindt, Denis Hulme, Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, Jim Clark and Jack Brabham competed in the Indianapolis 500 in the 1960s,” Letterman told the Verizon INDYCAR Mobile App. “It’s exciting that Alonso is coming this year. I think it’s a lovely idea. I remember when Nigel Mansell was here in 1993 and 1994. I think it’s great. Good luck to him (Alonso).” Now I can only see a senile old man with his big white beard, rambling ad finitum about Indianapolis into his iPhone.

Bruce Martin wrote that piece, and he writes for the Verizon app which is where the article was first posted. They post those articles on the main website a couple days after the app which is why the article was written that way. It was cool seeing Letterman at Indy last weekend, and it's hilarious to compare his hair to Bobby Rahal

We are green for Day 3. Should be a good amount of running, as the forecast for the next few days is for spotty thunderstorms and showers that may limit tracktime. For strategy, Sat/Sun also look to be high temps, high humidity, off and on showers. Pretty similar to the weather on Thurs/Friday, so assuming we get some track time tomorrow and Friday, I would imagine people would be squeezing in all the qual sims they can. http://racecontrol.indycar.com/ http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=39.8023&lon=-86.2672&unit=0&lg=english&FcstType=graphical https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6XS6MHPAS4
