Last year, I saw a play that was a retelling of Dracula. In the end, the professor gets institutionalized, as foreshadowed near the beginning of the play by Renfield, since the bad guys had effectively won and taken over London, and so revenge/striking against/destroying the credibility of the people who knew the truth and could harm their plans was the reasonable course of action.
