Also if you think every single invader is hyper-optimized PvP build you haven't fought many.

The mechanics behind it have always been a janky mess but its a completely unique experience. There really aren't many other games that can put you against another player in an uncomfortable situation. Being able to fight another person almost anywhere using a huge variety of weapons adds a lot of excitement to the game to me. You can do some really interesting and creative stuff with builds too (though it varies in effectiveness compared to just spamming R1 with a straight sword).

Now as for honorable arena PvP I've never seen the appeal of that In Dark Souls. When you take out the random elements of invasions I lost all interest in the game.

Bloodborne has the best PvP. It's totally optional except for a few areas which you can kill the mob that let's people invade you. However, if you want to invade people you open yourself up to invasions again.

Because if its always like that for you then the problem is on your end. Forcing people to actually deal with invaders is part of the appeal because you don't just get hyper tryhard fights constantly. Plus it means you might get invaded in a situation where you are at a disadvantage. If you let people opt out of invasions then a bunch of people would turn them off or put them off when they aren't at 100% optimal fight conditions. Then you get less players for invasions, which discourages people from invading in the first place. And then you get more invasions against gank squads too which encourages the people that do invade to go hyper tryhard builds otherwise they get their rear end kicked. Which fucks over the people who actually leave invasions on for fun, since now there's less build variety.

So yeah, I am gonna call you selfish for thinking its fine to screw over an entire part of the game just because you personally have a problem with it due to your crappy connection. If you want to engage with the online elements of the game, then you need to have decent internet.

I tried invading for the first time in Dark Souls 3 (with it being a defining feature of the series) and I was really disappointed that it was skewed so heavily towards players with (several) summons. I generally don't summon and I've had one single invasion. I played Dark Souls 2 on Xbox 360 six months ago and I got invaded more there.

That's because DS3 heavily weighs invasions towards players that have summons present. If you don't play with summons then invaders are a lot less common. I'd rather they just weigh everyone equally. I barely ever get invaded unless I use the finger.

Last night the most annoying invasion wasn't the hacker it was the guy who lagged a bit and killed me in two hits from 1300 hp with a ultra weapon because the game didn't quite remember that the attack I was doing had hyperarmor because of lag (in retrospect I guess what actually happened was that I was already dead).

You can't win this argument. There are literally zero draw backs to losing as an invader. You don't lose an ember, you don't lose progress, you don't lose souls unless you don't go back and get them.

Giant seeds were used as a reaction, are very scarce, and nobody ever stayed in one area long enough to run the timer of a giant seed out, nor did they rest at a bonfire just to respawn enemies to gently caress with invaders.

Besides, *the monsters are on your side.* How is that a fair fight?

Still a little startled that you think that's how it goes for everyone. You can youtube the title of your video and get hundreds of videos which show nothing at all like you are seeing.
I have seen some T-Posing a couple of times but by and large, the PvP is good and nowhere near as laggy as say DS1. You clearly have a connection issue on your end.

Of all 5 games, DS3 is by far the least laggy PvP. Bloodborne is close, but invasions in BB are so rare as to basically be a non-issue.

I'm not a huge PvP guy but it can be a fun little distraction, or a minor annoyance. But really - it's pretty difficult to die somewhere that you legit can't get your souls back. Bonfires are rarely far apart, so you are rarely far from one - so it's perhaps less of a big deal in DS3 than previous games. It used to suck in Sen's fortress because that first bonfire takes a LONG time to get to if you're not familiar with all the traps. So what I'm basically saying is you are picking a really weird hill to die on due to your weird lag problems (which I can assure you are YOURS) - my PvP has never looked like that video you posted.

Back when I worked on mobile games shortly before DS2 came out, we were making a Telenovela trivia game and I managed to get an invasion mechanic into it. It was our most successful game.

You'd be in the middle of playing and you'd get randomly invaded and thrown into a face-off against someone else. If you beat them, you'd get some energy back and some in game currency IIRC.

Invasion mechanics are always great. Even in games for old Mexican ladies.

quote:

...that doesn't look specific to you. In fact it looks awfully general. Perhaps you meant to say you want to opt-out? And you can - play offline. There you go. Summoning help makes you more susceptible to invasions. Bummer. But that's been a core mechanic of the game at least since DS1. And again - invasions are so heavily weighted against the Invader, that really the only solution if you can't beat one with help is to literally git gud. Or at the very least get over what is at worst a minor hiccup.

Trust me, man. You will find old posts of mine in the DS1 thread whining about how awful invasions are and how "I'm just trying to play the game" and they are "ruining my fun". Until I started just treating it as just another challenge the game is throwing your way - because really - why is it any different? Because there's a human controlling it, as opposed to a really tough boss fight controlled by AI? So there you go - and invader is just a miniboss. Most invaders are not good players. You will find this out if you can solve your lag issue and actually engage a few. Sure you run into the latest tryhard meta build sometimes, but it's rare enough to not worry about it, and just having the gear doesn't mean the player is any good at using it.
