Sure sure, there are ways around it, but it's a basic functionality that really should exist.

Life Is Strange feels suuuuuper manipulative to me in retrospect, it's like one of those stories that end with having to put a dog down

It's very much from the "spend 90% of the game telling the player to do something and then the last 10% telling them to feel bad for having done it" school of video game narratives, which I really didn't like about it. There's a lot of things I don't like about it honestly, but I think it's bad in a fun and interesting way and I think another game by the same devs could be equally interesting and maybe I'd like it more. I hope the new story and new cast idea is what they go with!

isn't battle.net like, hilariously terrible compared to steam though? you don't even have voice chat iirc

it's got a chat system and a cooked in voip and an overlay but even with all those similarities comparing it to steam is a very apples to oranges thing. the blizzard launcher supports something like 6 games in its entirety: hearthstone, heroes of the storm, world of warcraft, diablo 3, starcraft II, and overwatch. they all fit on the sidebar simultaneously and thus are displayed even if you don't have one or the other installed. there is no storefront, or community pages, or anything, because it is just those 6 games.

I think a lot of people were under the impression that Life is Strange was going to be one of those games that had all these various permutations and were disappointed when it didn't end up being that. It's also kind of a downer ending. But I felt like the plot was well-established by everything leading up to the final episode, I could see where things were going and to me it was actually quite beautiful. There's a lot that I could say about it but I'd rather not other than hell yeah Life is Strange 2!!!

I'm honestly surprised at the number of people who are gonna play Destiny 2 on PC and don't already have Blizzard's launcher installed. I kinda would've expected there to be more overlap between the Destiny 2 audience and the Overwatch audience.

It makes a lot of sense that Blizzard gets a third party game on their platform. They have an insane ammount of users, they were basically wasting free money not selling more games on their platform. It would be cool to have actual capable comeptition to Steam.

in the official press release they explicitly claim that this is a one and done deal and they have no future plans to add more third party games to the client, so it remains really weird in my book

Activision games are not third party for Blizzard, hell, they spent some amount of time implementing a half-arsed version of exotic equipment in Wow.

Blizzard titles also being on their own platform don't have to play the deep discount game, their consumer base is huge and will pay full price well after release.

Does this mean other games are going to come to the Blizzard platform too?

Our focus in terms of supporting non-Blizzard games is solely around Destiny 2. Aside from potentially evaluating needs or opportunities for future Activision games, we don’t have any short- or long-term plans to support third-party games with Battle.net. It’s important to us to maintain our quality standards for any experience or service we’re putting in front of our players, which represents a big investment of time and effort on our part, so this is not something we’re jumping into lightly.
