(And both can work in an enterprise setting as long as you don't mind an unmanaged switch and an AP that isn't designed around more than a half dozen users at a time)

Why'd a home network need a dedicated access point

I'm already kinda disappointed that they decided to charge money for online play this time around. MK8D's online performance is pathetic, and things need to get better sooner rather than later. Is that guy who just flew by me with no mushroom or drift boost hacking, or is it poor netcode? Did that red shell that hit the guy in front of me even hit him? If so, why'd he not stop even though coins popped out? Why is this person drifting and dragging along the wall without slowing down? Is it even possible to have more than 5 consecutive races without dropping connection?

It's all somehow worse than the Wii U version, and it's going to cost money on top of that... Take a little rock off that mountain of money and throw it at some IT specialists, Nintendo. Or go back in time and build a god damned Ethernet port into the dock for gently caress's sake.

I'm really not anywhere near as mad as I sound about this, just kinda perplexed that they think charging money for online is a good idea in this current state. It's a shame that the majority of Switch owners will be bent over a barrel about it, too, since MK8D and Splatoon 2 are sure to be two top sellers over the system's lifetime, and for all intents and purposes, are online-centric games.

This sounds weird. I hope it's because of "literally ten times the number of players we expected" and not because of "still running off those old satellaview satellites"

They won't get me to pay for online play if it's got those kinds of problems, I'm one picky fucker

I tried like six kinds of android apps like that about four years ago and they su-ucked. Real-time streaming of video over network is pretty hard to get right, for some weird reason.

What I'd really want is HDMI input on my switch (which would be nothing like the xbone function, don't try that poo poo with me :colbert:)

Anyway if they get that poo poo working well I'll be all over it. It's certainly got the right hardware for it but I'll believe it when I see it

It's almost like this period of free online is so they can work out the kinks before charging money for it.

It runs way better. The router is likely in the basement, and a reasonable wireless router is probably going to run you around $100 which a unifi AP is under $80. You can buy the cheap routers that are $50 and drop your wireless devices or get something reliable. A good place for your wireless is not a good place for your switch ports.

Yeah MK8's online on the switch is abysmal. It's fun to race with to a extent but shells feel kinda meaningless. I've thrown countless red shells at people with triple mushrooms only to see no result minus the triple coins coming out. None of the mushrooms are used and just welp.

Then there's the fact that if you leave a tourney room there's a very good chance you just wont be allowed to go back into it anymore. Oh a friend is in a online race? I joined it and it put me in a worldwide race without my friend in a room of 8000 people. Cool.

PPT online is a joke as well and it's genuinely funny if they expect people to want this service.
