No, the families kick them out every Sunday so all the Filipino maids gather at at one of the subway stations and have mass picnics/naps all over pedestrian walkways. They actually do a good job of not getting in the way of passers-by. They seem to be having a good time, but kicking out a live-in servant and describing it as "a day-off" is kind of nauseating.

I took some pictures of them while in HK not knowing what was happening. They are really organized about it and not a sad face in sight.

Actually some of them are literally naked and chained up and can't leave the house ever, so it's not really fair to say they're kicked out.

I'd want to get out of the house, too, but they've nowhere to go because they don't have their own places to stay.

Yeah it's their government mandated day off so what are they gonna do? They can't sit on their employer's couch and watch TV so... They could just chill in their cupboard bedroom I guess. They generally prefer the fresh air

So this happened today...

quote:

North Korea launched a ballistic missile from the northwestern part of the country early Sunday, the South Korean Joints Chief of Staff said.

quote:

The missile, launched near the city of Kusong, flew 700 kilometers (435 miles), the South Korean military said. A US defense official confirmed that it flew that far, but said the US is still assessing what type of missile it was.

Any word re: response from the PRC?

This happened 5 years ago, I wonder why it comes out now.

That "capping the dude in the government building courtyard" bit is way too dramatic IMO, especially for the Hu jintao run.

All spies are equally bad no matter who they are spying on. This is a nuanced and well thought out opinion.

Personally I think it was cool and good when Nazis executed allied spies too.

I think this is actually the more important question.

Everyone spies on everyone else. Foreign spies with cover usually get deported. Domestic informants are usually harshly punished for treason. No one signs up for any of this not knowing the consequences beforehand.

But why leak the story now, half a decade later? Pushback by the CIA against Trump's recent warming up to Xi?

Well there is no warming up to China. China and the US are just exchanging cooked chicken with mutant beef. I doubt Xi and Trump will even get a high level meeting in Beijing or DC the way things are going.

My theory is that this is for the mole inside CIA, maybe they are getting close to him. This kind of leak has to come from a mole, not a protocol breach.
