Worst case he's a warm body that fills 1B until Freeman is back and is off the books after 2017, best case he gets hot and the Braves flip him for more than they could have gotten trying to deal Loney (nothing).

Matt Adams should have never even been offered arb. They announced Carpenter's move to 1B in November. He immediately had zero use for the team at that point. The Cardinals bullpen is so bad. Not as bad as the Nats bullpen, but still bad.

Luis Valbuena (hitting .176/.311/.294/.606) and Jefry Marte (hitting .185/.264/.346/.609) will probably platoon at 1B/3B with Fontana.
