Recently read Ankiel's book The Phenomenon and it was really good. Pretty heartbreaking in parts but a really good read.

I've been meaning to read this. Ankiel always fascinated me. Might get it on Audible since it's still priced high.

Just a reminder that July 1st is Bobby Bonilla day!

e: to bring this full circle, because of the Bonilla deferment, the Mets were able to get Mike Hampton for one year before he went to the Rockies. The Mets got the 38th pick in that draft who they used to draft....

Yeah I think he's done. It's possible he could still DH for a team since his current issue appears to be throwing, but honestly I think he'd retire before asking for a trade.

They basically got Adams for nothing though and he'll probably put up more of a fight than Loney. Worst case he's a warm body that fills 1B until Freeman is back and is off the books after 2017, best case he gets hot and the Braves flip him for more than they could have gotten trying to deal Loney (nothing).

Playoffs are no big deal,
don't have a crap attack.
Since that ridiculous "Goins should be playing over Travis when Tulo comes back" post, Travis has been hitting over .500 and gotten his average back to .239 (his OBP is .280, or something). He's also hitting a million doubles.

Goins has continued to be awful.

Matt Adams should have never even been offered arb. They announced Carpenter's move to 1B in November. He immediately had zero use for the team at that point.

The Cardinals bullpen is so bad. Not as bad as the Nats bullpen, but still bad.

He should have retired when he found out he had that spine thing but, I guess, what is a guy supposed to do with that much money? I have a feeling he would have kept trying even if he didn't have that extension.

In other news, the Angels sent down CJ Cron (hitting .232/.281/.305/.586) to AAA and recalled Nolan Fontana from AAA. Luis Valbuena (hitting .176/.311/.294/.606) and Jefry Marte (hitting .185/.264/.346/.609) will probably platoon at 1B/3B with Fontana.

At least the Angels don't have one of the worst starting rotations in baseball.
