"Go on until you're stopped."

Pirate Jet posted:

Seriously. The fact that the show actually tackled the dilemma of having to kill humans head-on and came to the PROPER conclusion was genuinely mature in a way that just the newfound swearing and blood wouldn't cover alone - the answer wasn't "well I guess Jack has to be Batman now" but instead "they chose to try and kill you, it's not your fault if they lose the game of life and death." And the crows showed that the show had no interest in backing down on that position.

That's not exactly true?

I mean, even when Jack kills the other daughters, we know he's wrong about them. He says "you chose this path," but the truth is, they really didn't. Ashi even says it outright later to her mother: "Jack didn't kill my sisters; you did."

One nice thing about the finale is that by reusing the original intro in the beginning Mako got to be in it.

Seems like his voice replacement got a lot better at imitating him since Avatar / Korra as well, although with all of those shows done I can't imagine there'll be much use for it anymore.

Hey I was right about Ashi being the one to send Jack to the past. Feels...alright I guess.

I feel good about that ending. Jack went back to the past, killed Aku, and ended up happy. There were a lot of issues leading to that ending but the important parts got hit so I am satisfied.

I kind of wish they had started with the original opening sequence to have Aku gently caress with the audience one last time.

I'm pretty sure they added a lot more reverb to his voice in his episode, too - malaise officially over :3:

So now that Samurai Jack is over what's next on the agenda for Genndy. Gonna try and shoehorn a pale girl with short hair into the next Hotel Transylvania, bring back Sym-Bionic Titan so he can focus more on the pale girl with short hair, or maybe make an entirely new series about a pale girl with short hair?

Spinoff show starring Aku in the years between conquering the world and Jack emerging in the future?

Aku's "Welp" expression as Jack portaled back made it all worth it. :allears:

I guess we can cleanly confirm though that Jack was a total idiot to not let the monks sacrifice themselves to let him get into that one time portal. It's a pretty sure thing none of them would have existed. That episode plays even worse now in the context of the new season.

Overall? I'm pretty satisfied.

No, it's the spin-off show starring Aku that's basically Space Ghost Coast-to-Coast

Does every episode end with someone saying something to the effect of "...wait, how are you even here, shouldn't you be--", and Aku promptly poofs out of existence?

Hotel Transylvania already has a pale girl shoehorned into the Dracula mythos (alongside a ridiculous monster hotel concept that completely contradicts the canon)

Jack and his family aren't really depicted as caricatures. And Norse and Scotts don't really suffer the same history of caricature.

I was also put off by his recent Luke Cage work for Marvel that goes to an Ebony White in The Spirit level of grossness with some of his depiction.

Stepan Andreyevich Bandera being the most prominent example of that
It's odd, because there are other black people, in the same episode even, that don't look like minstrel show characters.

I just figured Africans in Jack are depicted as a style of African art. They always reminded me of the artwork a friend who lived in Botswana had around her house, but damned if I know the name for it. Lots of elongated figures with exaggerated facial features either on pottery or carved from black stone (I think). Kinda like these, but full figure:

Actually, I respectfully disagree with you there. For as obviously flawed as this game is, there ARE a lot of really good things about it. The presentation and atmosphere, for example, are the most immediate things. No other Yu-Gi-Oh game goes out of the way to really make

Das Boo posted:

But I'm probably being way too optimistic. :(

Not necessarily. Gendy may not always be a perfect writer, but he seems like he's always been a talented art director. Moreover, he was always very faithful to the Asian asthetic of Samurai Jack; to the point where even the bittersweet ending can be seen as a callback to Samurai stories of old.

I can't find the Youtube comment, sadly; but I ran across one that talked about the director's commentary of Cowboy Bebop. And apparently, if you're really trying to tell an authentic Japanese Samurai story (like Gendy was trying to do), then there's really no such thing as an unambiguously happy ending. Everything comes at a cost; nothing great can ever be accomplished without sacrifice. If you've got an ending where everything's wrapped up in a neat little bow, then you don't have a true Samurai story.

So I wouldn't be surprised if your "optimistic" interpretation turns out to be the right one.

If someone says it one more time I'm having Florina show up as a corpse. I'm not even kidding, I was pissed off with people doing that shit back in 2010, and I'm not dealing with it now in 2016.
I'm surprised at people being surprised that Jack would go back to the past to undo centuries of torment and suffering even at the cost of the people he saved. People ask "What's the point." And the point is that Jack isn't the kind of person who does good because "This ultimately leads to the end game." Jack doesn't care that every good thing he ever did was erased, doing good - for the sake of doing good - is the entire point. That's why even at the last portal, he didn't hesitate to throw himself into it. And you know what? If you think for a moment that anyone who showed up to save him was going "How dare he undo this horrible world and erase the me that currently exists." Then you're even more foolish. The goal from the start was to go back and stop Aku, even if you want to point to the thousands Jack had saved in the future, that is incomparable to the billions he would be saving by ending Aku before AKU perverted the timeline.
