I think some also add essentially a second number row that is usable compared to most keyboards having function keys way up there. I've never owned one, but I have at least one friend who loves them. The logitech one linked in question doesn't seem to add many keys, so I'm not sure which I'm thinking off. If you got used to the joystick for movement (can FFXIV do joystick + keyboard?) it would be a pretty solid increase. nuru fucked around with this message at 21:24 on May 21, 2017 |

Having a bunch of abilities right under your thumb is fantastic.

As someone who just got all crafters to 60, what's the poverty set look like for gearing all of them to "yeah I guess you could craft the sky pirate set for glamours"? Even though I'm sitting on about 81 fibers, I'm not sure it'll be worth the effort and money to go fully kitted out with the i190 Ironworks set, especially with Stormblood right around the corner, but I also have no idea what all the inbetween places are from vendor 58 whites to the high end. I just want to make poo poo for glamours without spending a six-digit gil number on it, as well as consolidate down to one set.

The secret to the 'key board' is that there are many buttons available, and on top of that, it functions as a keyboard when not playing the game. Think about it.

Even with ironworks you're going to need to do some melding to be able to do 4* crafts. If all you care about is glamour, I'd just get another crafter to help you out, since SB is less than a month away now. That being said, a full ironworks set even without melds will give you a pretty big leg up on crafting in SB.

For people without wrist problems, adopting ESDF and getting more keys to the left is probably just as good as a dedicated thing. Unless shift is too far for you then, in which case I don't know hands are hard. That being said, I'm intrigued by the joystick because wasd movement makes it particularly hard to say, hit E while strafing right with D. nuru fucked around with this message at 21:46 on May 21, 2017 |

the Japanese PC gaming market is being largely influenced by gaming equipment that we've learned to look away from and I see fresh Japanese PC gamers all over the place with those tiny WASD area things in addition to regular keyboards for some loving reason

The japanese literally do not know what personal computers are so I'm not surprised they do their level best to consoleize the control method by chopping a keyboard into quarters. alternatively The japanese spend so much time in their office jobs the sight of a keyboard is physically repulsive so they use the keypad things to game.

Alternatively: a lot of PC gamers play MMOs in Japan and gameboards are a useful, MMO-specialised peripheral, just like mice with lots of thumb buttons.

Countblanc posted:It's a separate spell (different icon, much shorter cooldown), so I guess we can do things like fly to someone to avoid an AoE and then get right back into it. I wonder if Leylines is going to be changed in some way - it feels weird to get a cooldown specific to another cooldown. Maybe it loses its duration and just stays there until you move it but only gives a spell speed buff every X seconds where X is the current cooldown? That'd be convenient. Edit: Nevermind, leylines clearly does fade. Still, the above implementation would be a nice convenience thing. Edit2: It annoys me that leylines in its usage as a teleport destination and as a buff are often going to be in conflict, I really wish it just stuck around and you could boost it to get the buff. I have one of those 12-button gaming mice, so I have four hotbars in a 3x4 setup each bound to mousebutton (GCDs), ctrl-mousebutton (common oGCDs), shift-mousebutton (defensive cooldowns), and alt-mousebutton (stances and other stuff I don't have to use much). Then I have a shared hotbar with function keys for stuff like teleporting, and two vertical hotbars off to the side for changing jobs. I also have g-shift+mousebutton bound to act like ctrl-mousebutton so I basically only use my left hand for WASD. So I can do move while doing stuff easily but if I want to move the camera or switch targets I'm kinda in a bad spot.

So I've been kinda taking a break waiting for the expansion to hit, how far ahead of launch do we usually see the pre-patch that would include things like the promised job-skill changes? A week or so? Have they mentioned anything new about that or nothing since the Fan-fests?
