This thing hit all the right notes for me. I was a bit worried the quirky humor would be lost, but the whole bit with cops and the apartment lady was incredible. I could watch a full episode of those cops trying to get into the apartment. The Michael Cera Motorcycle monlogue had me in stitches. I just loved how the Sheriff how had no idea how to react. I am A-OK with absolute schlock and cheese like that as long as its self aware.

I am a bit confused by Dougie though, and I expect we all are. I get he was some sort of vessel to allow coop out, but was he created by danzig so he could stay, or by some force working against the black lodge? He was also presumably an actual person with an actual life who existed before all of this happened?

EDIT: Are we doing spoilers?

Scelesti vulgus superstitiosus ignavusque sunt.
So, (episode 4) doppelganger Phillip Jeffries and doppelganger Coop have been working together to ... commit crimes and impede criminal investigations? They are the doppel FBI?

Also, I think my first big laugh was when I saw Michael J. Anderson's "evolution."

I assumed the doppelgänger created or used dougie so coop would have another vessel. If evil coop kept his mouth closed long enough, coop would get zapped into Dougie.

Fuzzy details and "how"'s aside, I took Dougie as a homunculus-esque vessel that Danzig created so that when the time for him to get sucked back into the Black Lodge came, it would bring in Dougie instead of himself.

It seems like a fetch. A copy of Cooper's body created from some random little object (the golden sphere). Common in thing in European folklore.

Only seen 1/2 so far but it's everything I hoped it would be and more. It's a less abrasive INLAND EMPIRE, it's a sadder Mulholland Drive, it's a scarier Twin Peaks. The fact that he has so much of the cast back 25 years later is a genius move because it really illuminates the terror of passing time - Lynch has always infused his movies with the anxiety of the mundane, and there's nothing more mundane or anxiety-inducing than passing time. The glass box scene was terrifying, as was BadCooper murdering that girl in the bed ("Are you gonna kill me now?"), as was Laura screaming and flying way, and Dark Brain Tree sending Cooper into an unimaginable nothingness. I really love the scary, distinctly alien world of the Lodges, it's super discomforting and hostile in a passive way.

That's my favorite thing about the Lodges. They perfectly distill this remote, uncaring evil.

Big Mean Jerk

Well, of course I know him.
He's me.
The glass box scene was already unsettling before the grey demon alien ghost showed up, but my vote for most upsetting thing in the premiere was the noise the brain tree/neuron/The Arm made. Like someone sucking down jello through a gaping neck wound. :gonk:

It's exactly the level of disturbing weirdness I wanted from this revival.

Agreed with both of those at the same time!

Just watched the first double shot of episodes, this is so drat good! It's Lynch doing what he does best, can't wait to see all the wild scenes and what the bigger picture is overall by the end of it.

Ok so was the glass box ghost The Arm's doppelganger, which attacked Cooper after transforming out of the Black Lodge statue. I'm getting the impression it was, considering the ghost was sometimes topless, sometimes had a cloth draped over it.

My initial reaction after watching all four is that they clearly weren't exaggerating about it being an 18 hour movie. I'm loving every minute of it - even when I'm confused as hell - and episode 4 is absolutely my favorite for having Naomi Watts as well as being the funniest of the four.

Worst takes ever. It's pretty stagnant to think that a franchise should stay exactly the same way forever. I love S3 a boatload because it's turning the cosy atmosphere and friendly familiarity of the rest of the show on its head.
