So the Twin Peaks revival is loving phenomenal and is ultimate Peak Lynch, I literally can not imagine any way it could be better and there are still 14 loving hours of it left It's like, it feels like this is Lynch saying "You fuckers want it, you're loving getting it" and just making an 18 hour super-Lynch-film that is way more than just "Twin Peaks season 3"

My wife was an assistant to Lynch maybe fifteen years ago -- making coffee, taking phone calls, that kind of thing. She actually didn't know who he was when she took the job; when her friend said she had "a quick short-notice job" for her, she thought she was going to be answering phone calls for a porn studio or something. Apparently Lynch liked a certain brand of cigarettes -- American Spirit? -- and he'd chain-smoke through them. He sent her to go get another carton from some cabinets in the office, and he had hundred of cartons all stacked up so he wouldn't run out. She also made fun of Nic Cage over the phone (she thought a friend was pranking her), but that's another story altogether.

By the time she figured out it really was him, she couldn't just back out of it, so she ended up carrying on a full conversation with him in some terrible rendition of his own voice. We saw him in a bar in New Orleans (literally the morning before those reports broke about him being arrested for domestic abuse) and I tried to convince her to go over and introduce herself using that voice again ("Just wanted to say hi, I took a call from you for David Lynch once") but he was with his wife and kid, and he was wearing a ridiculous wig and glasses in an attempt to disguise himself, so obviously he didn't want any fan attention.

I don't know how he chain-smokes those mothers all the way down to the filters. I watched the new documentary about him, David Lynch: The Art Life, and he's just smoking constantly.

I swear the pack in The Art Life was blue, but you only see it one time. Yellow makes more sense, because he'd actually be able to chain smoke them, and they look the same (filter color, etc.) If you're trying to quit cigarettes, don't watch David Lynch documentaries. You will smoke.

Friend of mine went to see Lynch give a speech to a Cinema Studies class, only thing he told me about it was that afterwards he asked for advice on writing screenplays and Lynch said "Here's what you do. Buy a six pack, put on a pot of coffee, and roll the biggest joint you can. By morning you'll have a script. That's how I wrote Lost Highway."

Everyone who likes Lynch should watch David Lynch: The Art Life. It's fantastic. Just stories and stories of things like that--walking about of a Bob Dylan concert after smoking too much pot, the stories that inspired Blue Velvet, how he became a high school rebel and his parents almost kicked him out of the house. It's great.

I just watched all of Twin Peaks like a few months ago, and even then there was a lot of stuff in the new season where I was like "What's that all about? I remember that there's something/someone that's relevant to from the original run, but I can't remember exactly what." It'll be a lot more fulfilling if you've seen the first two seasons first. Well, I'd say there's some stuff in season 2 you can kinda skip over, but otherwise.

david_a posted:That guide looks pretty legit, although I don't remember much of an uptick in quality at the end of S2. I think the terrible episodes before that poisoned me on the later ones. On a rewatch watching Donna figure out that Ben Horne may be her father, and then go out of her way to guilt trip her mother and basically call her a lying bitch, then hear the truth, have a break-down, only to then go into denial about everything she's been investigating and refuse to acknowledge everything she knows is a very weird and fascinating final arc to Donna that also completely captures the character.

It gets better once the Wydom Earle storyline really kicks in. Not that everyone loves Wyndom Earle, but its at least some momentum that carries the story forward a lot faster than the first half of the season. Personally I like them all, I love Super Nadine and General Ben Horne.

No. I know that Nadine is supposed to be insufferable, but she just drives me absolutely crazy. Partly because I feel really sorry for Big Ed, but mainly because she is so drat obnoxious. Poor Mike, though. He was just a dumb kid that fell in love with a married woman with super strength. That whole segment in the final episode is so sad. Ed can't catch a break..
