Like I understand the rubberband effect is very very real in the NBA. But you'd think the Golden State warriors would be able to put distance on a lineup of Murray, Forbes, Simmons, Anderson, and Gasol. That's rookie, 0, 1, and 2 years removed from the D league, and then a broken Gasol.

Are they clean on being over the tax? I thought they were in this year, but it looks like they might have ducked it. Would it actually be 3 years before they start paying the repeater?

It'll somewhat depend on what happens, but likely they will not be in the tax next year. Durant will be signing with room if he opts out, but the trick here is Curry's cap hold is only 18 million and he's going to sign a 36 million DPE contract. So that 18 million over + exceptions is probably all they will end up going over. If Durant Opts in, they can give big contracts to Iggy and Livingston if they want, then they might end up in the tax.

warriors will go over the cap if they think its remotely necessary

the bay area is loving wetting itself over its sport relevancy

its probably better for the owner's other businesses, and any future ventures he'd be interested in starting, to have the warriors be the best team in the league

plus they know their window is small, their lucky drafting will only pay off once. better to blow the load now than wait until it withers

If Draymond Green doesn't implode and remains a top defender in the league then their window is like 6 years.

The following season for 175% of his 2017-2018 salary or 35% of the cap (and his salary would be the cap, likely). So he'd lose 9 million and 7.5% of raises if the cap holds steady. They are actually projecting the cap to decrease, so it might be a bigger drop for him.

I expect he'll either take the full contract or just take the $5 mil cut now

The CBA faq just says the limit is up to 175% of his salary, which is plenty to offer him the max and it says he also gets his 7.5% raises.

Pop is playing Ginobili like he did Duncan. This is really going to be it I think.

Right, but he misses a season of 7.5% raises (because those on the 35 million contract start a year later). So the entire length of the contract + extensions will be 7.5% less.

So just because the cap isn't expected to rise right? So hypothetically if jersey ads spiked the cap again he'd make more by opting in and then signing with bird rights?
