He basically said that there's no way they could take them out anymore, because there would be so much backlash. Is the backlash real? I assumed it was mostly breathless videos posted by a few dudes with anime avatars.

I know they cut out good stuff as well, and it can be argued it messes with the vibe of the series, but I actually really like the way they handled the hostess stuff in Yakuza 3 by keeping them in, but instead of having to waste hours on the mostly boring hostess dates, they reshape them as aggressively forward women who hang out in burger shops. So you get the fun side quests and still get to sing karaoke.

The only anime I would consider watching are Jeff Gerstmann-approved Polar Bear Cafe and Wakakozake.
