Oh God, earlier today I realized that due to all the conservatives shills whining about Political Correctness, it has stopped having a meaning for me, other than 'don't call people racist/sexist things'. Holy poo poo these cartoons end up eating away at your intelligence for real.

That's always been what political correctness means. It emerged in the post civil rights era as a way for bigots to claim to be the real victims. People used to complain about "PC police," now it's "SJWs." Same poo poo different name.

Most people have indeed been accused of being ignorant/regressive/bigoted etc. simply for saying the wrong thing to the wrong person and it loving sucks, even when you know they might be right. It's usually counter productive because attacking people for what they consider to be innocent mistakes or harmless foibles is likely to make people feel defensive and persecuted and reaffirm their existing biases.

That's why I called out Mandatory Lesbian a few days ago for going after someone who seemed to be genuinely asking a question with no malice involved. You never know where people on the internet are coming from and that was the perfect opportunity to educate rather than humiliate. Of course, we're called goons for a reason.

Anyway, it's long been the right's MO to find (or invent) the most annoying and unreasonable examples of leftie sanctimonious they can get their hands on and then extrapolate that to all left-wing critiques, so that they're always the innocent victims. PC, SJW, bleeding heart, Ivory tower, elitists, reverse racists, and now, somehow, antifascists. It's all the same poo poo.

Now you're just trying to show me up, but long story short, Bernie single-payer != the only way to single-payer. Hillary would have kept the ACA Medicaid expansion (single-payer), supported a public option (single-payer for many if you factor in subsidies), supported an age-55 Medicare buy-in (single-payer), and way back in the day created CHIP (single-payer). I have no doubt that she would have signed a single-payer bill if it arrived on her desk. More likely, the reform she would have pursued would have been gradual, and it may have led to a German-style healthcare system rather than a Canada-style system, but it would have been a big improvement. Everything that Joe Lieberman stripped out of the ACA Hillary (and the rest of the Democrats) wanted back in, and then some.

Well she sure was campaigning hard against it for something she wanted so very much, but "she would have signed a bill if it hit her desk" is also damning with faint praise so ok sure

"well, she probably wouldn't have vetoed it if it happened around her, so in closing yes I would call her a single-payer crusader"

Also, it is recycled urine used as fertilizer for the barley. There is no actual urine in the beer, and it cannot in any way be said to be made 'from' urine, unless you want to claim that most beer is made 'from' poo poo. (Well, manure.)

It's not like they're using filtered, purified urine to produce water which goes into it, which I guess you could say is made from urine - there's literally none in there.

So the actual story is that they brewed the beer from barley that was fertilized in the field with human urine. And it's called "Pisner" because Danish brewers have a sense of humor, unlike Tinsley.

In the original it is "mil", which is shorthand for 10 kilometers. Also, she calls Runkeeper "runke-per", a juvenile bilingual pun (something like "Wank-Pete").

The Tea Party was out in force with signs decrying Obama as "Socialist" and "Tyrant". You don't think they get millions more votes from moderates and independents if Obama actually passed UHC and destroyed two hundred years of Senate traditions to do it? You don't think there would be hundreds of thousands of liberals wringing hands and deciding to stay home because they didn't like Obama's methods, and besides, it wasn't real UHC, it's just Medicaid for all/a public option/nationalizing the hospitals and everyone knows that Medicaid for all/a public option/nationalizing the hospitals is the right way to do UHC.

"Repeal Obamacare!" was a rallying cry for Republicans last year, regardless of how incremental it was, so aim high when you get that once-a-generation shot at real reform. Make Republicans fight to shut down Medicare/Medicaid/Social Security/better health care instead of giving them ammunition with a dysfunctional compromise. The ACA was not all bad, but we're seeing Democrats' attempt at a market-friendly solution -- tossing a bunch of government cash at insurance for the destitute -- crumble because it's not profitable enough. Unless health care reform fixes the real problem (the overall cost of care), it will only kick the can down the road to the next Congress.

The BIG problem with the health care system is soaring costs. They've gone from 8% of GDP when Reagan took office to 18.5% now. That's unsustainable, and someone needs to staunch the bleeding, or the whole system will collapse. In the short term, any fix will be unpopular because it will cost someone/some business money, and it will cause uncertainty in the market. But as we're seeing now with the ACA, even small band-aids on the larger problem become popular when you try to take them away.

It's amazing how this once in a generation opportunity came along the last time a Dem got into office. I'm sure that trying to reject a bill and instead demand single payer only worked miracles last time, and totally ended up producing a bill that changed things, instead of producing an ongoing smear campaign that gave us President Trump.

Are any of you going to learn a single thing from 93? Or is that gonna be more blaming everyone else?

Political cartoon artist like this one are in a weird place, because they can't really applaud Trump or the GOP for their extreme examples of misanthropy because they don't agree with applauding people that is literally destroying lives. But can't criticize Trump and the GOP either, because they draw the cartoon for some public that would not like that. So they have to find in the bottom of the barrel something to say. Sometimes finding literally nothing (all these cartoon of the couple lost in the desert where pure emptiness). And then "Hey, do you remember Hillary Clinton?", because thats a sad alternative to having nothing to say.

In a world fully sterilized by Hollywood, Sony, Exxon Oil, Disney.. theres will be nothing to say anymore while the world burn and people loving die.
