People wouldn't vote for Bernie because they don't understand anything more complex than two syllables. That's why they elected Barack Obama to two terms.

It's possible, thought it's more important to look at the distribution than the aggregate, because NY and CA skew. But it's hard to deny: http://www.cnbc.com/heres-a-map-of-the-us-counties-that-flipped-to-trump-from-democrats/ The +20 county in Northeast Ohio is my hometown - the last Democrat to lose Trumbull was ah... Al Smith.

My mistake, Trumbull actually voted for a _non-incumbent_ Republican for the first time since Al Smith. Still, that means they voted for Adlai, Humphrey, and Mondale, and yet Hillary Clinton was a bridge too far. Lol.

to be extremely pedantic, the 2016 figures in that chart are from before the votes were completely counted and so a little lower than the final numbers. that being said, the claim that less people voted overall is correct (ref. eg. wikipedia, order by date). clinton got less votes than obama did, not only in the enthusiastic 2008 election but also his 2012 reelection. the folks who consistently vote R kept coming out - don didn't get many more votes than romney did - and the people enthused by obama being impossibly charismatic somehow couldn't turn out for clinton, in conclusion, bernie would have won, and to deny this is foolishness. tormp piss + namaste

In that 30 minutes, you actually saw the real people, not the corporate persona crafted by the news station. we first go to an election night party for a (hispanic) socialist city council candidate (who won) and while they weren't happy, they were more level-headed and steely about it. mostly hispanic and black crowd. like "drat. it's over. oh well" and onwards with the people's struggle. after that, after stopping to pick up some food, we drove to a house with their (white) feminist friends. walk in we meet a group of people wearing hillary t-shirts sitting shell-shocked and weepy around a TV. i immediately recognized this situation as not good so made a hasty retreat into the garage to eat my meal. later one of the girls grabbed a trump pinata and a baseball bat, ran into the backyard and started smashing it on the ground while screaming YOU SON OF A BITCH! as the bat made a WHAP WHAP WHAP sound. true story BrutalistMcDonalds fucked around with this message at 23:33 on May 24, 2017 |
