One of the things that stands out to me is that this is a show where Coop has been split into 3 people in the course of 4 episodes. Season 2 ended with him staring at BOB in a shattered, fragmented mirror. One of the questions I can't help but ask myself is why he was "defeated" in the finale in the first place. What prevented him from passing through the black lodge unharmed? One thing is that he seemed too willing to trade his soul for Annie's safety. Another was the fascination he had with her that Lynch seemed to find utterly banal ("How's Annie?"). But the thing that sticks out to me is that when he meets his doppelganger in the lodge, he runs away from it. Using dream logic--in a nightmare, you don't run away from the monster chasing you, you confront it. It seems strangely un-Cooperish, un-heroic and un-agentlike and un-mindful for him to flee instead of face it. It's like a rejection of his Shadow. Especially when you consider Leland's words in the lodge, where he says something like "I didn't do anything wrong, I didn't do anything." It makes me wonder if Coop wouldn't have found himself in this situation if he had acknowledged his Shadow Coop and embraced it or something, instead of running from it.
This video talks about the probable theological inspiration behind Twin Peaks, and it seems that your take on it pretty much sums it up. It also seems to tie in to Major Briggs's fear that love is not enough., not sure if the video includes that.

I'm rewatching season 2, but skipping over all the parts I don't care about so it's gone very quickly.

His films are more rooted in classic/silent cinema, but like Lynch he deals in obsessions and surrealism.

I'm not sure if it's free outside of Canada, but you could spend 14 minutes with Night Mayor and decide if he's for you (it's a short that is very indicative of his style):

Like Lynch at his best, Maddin's films feel like vaguely recalled dreams.

People are under a lot of stress, Bradley.
Something funny I noticed in rewatching the new episodes - the audio recorder that Bad Cooper uses to record the phonecall between Daria and Ray has a rewinding-tape sound effect. So apparently the wireless recorder he was using to tap the phone in real-time still uses tape.

Saw an interesting theory on Reddit that Wally might be a paid actor by Truman to help Lucy and Andy cope with the fact their son died years ago. Her obsession with the thermostat and the fact she was terrified by Truman walking in with the cellphone indicates she's kinda "stuck" in the past because of the trauma, and Wally's decision to let them make the room a study was part of some sort of coping method. Probably complete bullshit, but this show lends itself well to wild speculation.

Fake edit: would also possibly explain why the family photo had the awkwardly prominent faces pasted to it.

The whole process was :

Lynch: "So what other famous current actors are willing to work on this project and not get paid?"

Production assistant: "Mike Cera showed an interest........"

Lynch: "Cool, tell him to show up tomorrow."

Production assistant :"What's his character going to be? "

Lynch: "I don't care, whatever, just have him do whatever the gently caress he likes. What outfits have wardrobe got that we haven't used yet?"

David Lynch has talked about how much the outside world scares him at this point, and as he gets older it only seems to get worse. I think this might be the last TV show he ever makes.

As much as I'm loving this season so far, I'd be okay with this.

18 hours of new Lynch after not getting a movie from him in 11 years? That's preeeeeeetty substantial! And he's in his 70s and has been active for decades now, so it's not like he hasn't accomplished anything in his time of creating art.

I agree. David Lynch has made some really great films, but I always feel like there's so much "what if" left with him. He's one of the most gifted film directors of our time and yet he spent more than a decade of his life struggling to get any funding at all.

Yeah, I'm expecting this to be Lynch's swan song, and I'm completely fine with that. That's one of the main reasons I don't think (or mind) that the Coop stuff is dragging - its Lynchian and entertaining as hell, and the dude's a legend, let him do whatever he wants.

who do you carry the torch for, my young man?
I don't agree with people saying that you have to like Inland Empire to like this. I didn't enjoy that movie at all (although it has one really good scary scene), but I'm absolutely a fan of these new episodes. Certainly there's sensibilities of that later film that are in new Twin Peaks, but that movie was also scripted as it went along, entirely by Lynch, and a lot of it was just him messing around with video cameras and then editing it into a movie. On the other hand, new Twin Peaks was all written before it was shot with a complete narrative arc and a co-writer. Thus you get the awesome sensibilities but it isn't entirely meandering and self indulgent because Frost and a serial format keep it on direction.

It's still weirder than anything else on TV, but the fact that it is while having a coherent story is the real accomplishment.

It kind of seems like they're going after Dougie himself, since they put a bomb on his car. That only really makes sense if you think the guy will act like the real Dougie. It also seems like a lot of effort to go through just for gambling debts. So, I dunno.

Something makes me think the guys that rigged the car aren't the same guys Naomi watts is talking about. I think Danzig hired the guys that rigged the car, he was telling some people to be at a specific time and place.

But in the s2 finale, he says to Cooper in the Black Lodge "when you see me again, it won't be me". Was he a problem back then?
