Hope it being specifically a captain in gravis armor means you can get a Mk X captain with actual equipment options.

Kitting out your warlord was always one of the more fun bits of making an army.

This is all stupid speculation for dumb idiots, but I thiiiiink 8 power works out to around 150pts; the rubric marines cost 8 power in 8th and come with a 150pt price tag in 7th. Going by the same [rough/stupid] guidelines, I'd bet the captain costs more than 100pts.

So they're balancing the 3 x specialist detachments by them only giving 1 command point, seems fair.

Unfortunately I think that's the way future units are going to go. Too much complaining that you don't get all the pieces in box means that we can only choose from the pieces in the box.

This I like, a lot. What I REALLY don't like is the all LoW detachment getting 3 command points, because an all LoW army totally needs an extra boost.

Its 3 command points for a minimum of ~1.1k points and they're vulnerable to things that aren't lascannons now, if LoW armies are ever not going to be bullshit nows the time.

I reckon I'll easily be able to get a full Ork Brigade detachment in low point games. Single kans and buggies wobbling about while all the points go elsewhere.

It'll be nice to have an auxiliary Deathstrike missile because those are orky as heck.

From what we see there it seems like orks nids and guard are going to have a much easier time filling out that brigade detachment for that tasty +9 command points in your average game.

It'll mostly be for all Knight armies, and with the rebalancing it actually sounds like superheavies will actually fit into 40k now.

Just a slogan that comes around every time any mini game gets a new edition. It's generally a good time to start a new army as you can be sure that you're getting the maximum time with it without worrying about the next edition.

What's the deal with extra command points for filling out a detachment? Is it a flat +3?

MasterSlowPoke
Oct 9, 2005

Our courage will pull us through
You start with 3 points, then get the bonus for each detachment you have. So if you take the Battalion, Vanguard, and Auxiliary detachments, you'll have 3 + 3 + 1 - 1, so 6 CP to spend either before or during the game.

Now that templates are gone I am curious what Stomp will do. I assume D3 or D6 mortal wounds or something.

MasterSlowPoke

They didn't give the statline, but it looks like it's a weapon you can choose to use:

quote:

Another big change is how Stomps work. Previously, Stomps simply removed models entirely from the game on the roll of a 6. While this was useful for dealing with some problematic character-laden units which were hyper-durable, it could create gameplay situations which were not very satisfying for players when their favorite model was unceremoniously stomped into oblivion with no saves!

Now called Titanic Feet, these are still fearsome weapons, but do not simply remove models from play. And if kicking and stomping models isn’t enough, you’ve always got your trusty reaper chainsword or thunderstrike gauntlet to fall back on, both of which do an automatic 6 damage per successful attack. Ouch. The thunderstrike gauntlet also has the ability to chuck a destroyed Monster or Vehicle at another enemy unit within 9″ to do D3 mortal wounds on a 4+. Splat!

Right, but someone mentioned getting 9 points for filling out a brigade; I thought maybe there was a bonus for filling all the slots in a detachment

MasterSlowPoke

Oh, no, just a Brigade is basically a full 7th edition CAD, so it'll take a lot to fill up the mandatory slots to get those 9 points.

The detachments all seem really interesting to me. I like how the specialized ones are worth basically one third of the generalized ones, so they don't fall off too hard on usefulness.

I don't see auxillary supports coming up too often, tbh, but I imagine it'll be helpful for slipping in an extra unit.
