The problem is that leftists and liberals aren't really natural allies at all, but the US two party system causes them to be shoved together into the unholy coalition that is the Democratic Party. The Republicans have the same problem, but for them it's a mix of (a now rapidly diminishing number of) moderate center-right conservatives, extreme religious fundamentalists, crazy libertarians, and several more factions on top of that. Liberal policy goals don't necessarily move the country in a direction that leftists want it to move in and liberals don't necessarily want policy that continues to march the country left (even incrementally), but the Democrats are non-functional as a national political force without both wings so here we are. Honestly, the only thing that holds most Democratic voters together is being generally less horrifically awful than Republicans and "don't be horrible" isn't actually a political position. Like, the beliefs that people should be able to marry whomever they want and that cops shouldn't gun down black people in the streets aren't unifying political principles so much as they are baseline requirements for not being a bad person. Lots of more leftist Democrats love to complain about a lack of progress because there often is a legitimate lack of progress on the policy goals they care about, but they're still forced to vote for Democrats who don't represent their interests because the alternative is a party that's ready and willing to throw away a century of social progress. So I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that these people you're complaining about aren't "alt-leftists," they're just leftists who are frustrated with the only party they can actually vote for in good conscience. That's a lot different from the kind of movement that's happening with the alt-right.

I have the feeling nothing will come of any of this as the justice dept knows that if they charge trump that civil slaughter 2 will commence the following day. So I doubt anything will happen. We need to get more people on board with national dissolution and large scale mass death as it is the only viable position left
