Chase Ink Preferred Referrals are apparently (mostly) giving a 100k bonus instead of 80k. I found this out via reddit, then contacted Chase and apparently I'm getting 100k on this card. Best I can tell, it's only referrals.

So, I got the Reserve 50K sign up bonus but missed out on the 100K. Could I sign up for the Preferred to get its 50K bonus and then product change it to a Freedom or something? Or does the sign up bonus apply one time for all Sapphires? Only thing that would suck is losing out on the 3x points while I get the spend to qualify for the bonus on the Preferred.

Pretty sure the reserve and preferred are separate bonuses. I had a banker in a branch check for me a couple months back. Probably the safest way to do it if you want to be 100% sure.

They are different products and have separate rewards. Just be aware of the 5/24 rule.

They are separate. Both count towards 5/24. In most cases it appears the Chase Ink Preferred (business card) does not count towards 5/24. I just got approved for it despite not having a business. I just named my business after myself and said it was for off the clock consulting expenses. For Sapphire Preferred, I don't believe a referral link does anything to help you, only the person referring. The CIP is apparently giving 100k if you use a referral vs the 80k if you don't, but not on all referrals. Can I ask why you got the Sapphire Reserve before the Preferred if there was no 100k offer at the time? I assume you travel quite a bit? And yes, you can product change the CSP to the Freedom card, but there's no annual fee the first year, so I'd wait on that until you're close to the end of your first year.

Honestly just new to the rewards card game and didn't do enough research. The Reserve is my first rewards card. I got it the last week of the in-branch 100K bonus but didn't know that existed before I'd already applied online. I do travel a bit for work and fun, so the Reserve gets me more for my frequent purchases but I didn't realize they were separate when it came to bonuses. Otherwise, I would've gone Preferred first. I'm leery about doing the Ink Preferred though because I've heard they sometimes follow up to make sure its being used for a legitimate business. Is that true or no? I actually just got referred to do some freelance consulting work but I don't really have any expenses tied to it at the moment (it's all virtual stuff).

I had to call in. I don't have a business. I just told them it was for business expenses. They may try to verify but just tell them it's a sole proprietorship and you're just getting started. You may be able to get customer service to match your csr to the 100k bonus if it was available when you signed up. Just send a message or call.

They never asked me to verify anything for my Chase Ink Business Preferred. I don't have a business. I just added LLC to my last name for the business name. I"ve had it for about 2 months now.

The Ink Business Preferred can be pretty weird. I applied for it and got a message saying to call and speak to a customer service specialist, but also got a email simultaneously saying I would get a response in the mail in 30 days. I then called an automated line I found on reddit and was told I would get a response in 2 weeks, which according to reddit actually meant I was approved. As reddit said a few days later the automated status line changed the status to approved. Here's a convoluted approval flowchart. https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/65vg85/chase_nonautomatic_approvalreconsideration_guide/

Since an LLC requires state registration, Chase (or any other lender) can pretty easily verify that this is fraudulent. Just because they haven't done this verification yet doesn't mean you aren't utterly screwed the moment you do anything they deem suspicious.

Are points you earn on chase ink just UR points you can combine with your personal account? Or do they need to be spent separately?

Amex Hilton Surpass 100K offer expires tomorrow 5/31. https://card.americanexpress.com/su...v4vBhoCW__w_wcB (Not a referral link) The one important thing to note is that you get automatic gold status and it's only a $75 annual fee. Plus, you get one free weekend night after your first year and paying the subsequent annual fee. Because you get free breakfast for you and a guest with Gold at the vast majority of properties (Waldorf Astoria the notable exception), it's really worth it.

I guess Amex (Platinum) got rid of the ability to buy Amazon gift cards with the airline credit. Any other ways to spend the money other than getting drunk in the airplane? I normally fly business for work and other perks are free with my airline status. Any ideas? I heard you could do airline gift cards? I normally fly United...

I bought mine out with four $50 gift cards for Alaska Airlines. FlyerTalk has a thread for each major airline with people giving tips on how to buy the gift cards. Since you fly United, you could just trade yours for four beat downs and call it good?

I am curious about this too as most of my work travel this year has shifted away from United, and I didn't change my airline tied to the card. I used to use it on econ + upgrades. Worst case yeah I guess I could do gift cards and resell them or something.

As far as I'm aware the only option for United is to put it in the travel bank, which is GC like but can't be transferred iirc.

It's a card designed to be good only for existing Hilton customers, but the annual fee is so low that it's a good value no matter what.

The Surpass is nice if you have uses for it, not so much if it's purely speculative. Not huge value from the points but decent perks. 100k points will get you 2 nights in most of their nicer Hilton properties (and they reserve more for Diamond members) or a bunch in Hilton Garden Inns in Pampa, TX. Diamond status is nice because you get free breakfasts and lounges and all that. Solid earnings rate when using it to pay for your stays at Hilton properties.

Looking for advice on how to maximize Ultimate Reward points. Currently have BofAmericard, BofA Travel Rewards, and Chase Sapphire Reserve. I'm planning on making two non-travel related purchases on credit cards for a total of $25,000-$30,000 this year. Should I get the Sapphire Preferred and the Freedom Unlimited to stack the 50,000 bonus + the 1.5x rate for anything over the earned bonus amount on the Preferred?

What's the redemption value of airlines cards? Are they all about the sign-up bonuses / rewards statuses? For example, I get 2-5% CASH back on various cards for various things and there's very little management needed other than using this card as gas stations and that card at restaurants. Do airlines points ever get to the 5%+ mark without jumping through hoops? Why wouldn't I use a normal card and just spend the cash rebate on an airline ticket from whoever I want whenever I want?

DNK posted:What's the redemption value of airlines cards? Are they all about the sign-up bonuses / rewards statuses? You typically get better redemptions for premium class flights with airline miles (and thus using the cards to get them). For example, I booked 4 business class tickets on Qatar airways using 197,500 AA miles. The cost equivalent of those tickets was >$25,000. I never would have paid that and the chase UR cost of booking them would have been in the millions of points. Do what you wantand don't be bothered with what is "better".

Southwest upped their bonus to 60k per card. That means that if you get the Plus and the Premier and spend $2k each, you'll automatically get the Companion Pass which allows one person to ride free with you. When you get the pass, you'll have it for the rest of this year and the entirety of the next year. Unfortunately, these are Chase cards so the 5/24 rule applies. I had the companion pass in 2015 and 2016 and it was pretty amazing. It effectively doubled the points I had.

Cacafuego posted:Do what you wantand don't be bothered with what is "better". Agreed. Chase whatever rewards make sense for you. Airline rewards aren't important to me so I don't chase miles. I used to put all my spend on a Disney card since we were taking a big vacation there and wanted the reward dollars to spend on vacation. Now I put 90% of my spend through the Citi Doublecash or Costco card and will just use the cashback towards whatever comes up next.

Quick question: I've been on my bank's "starter" credit card for a while now and was looking at applying for something else as their card is kind of blah. However, I am also going to be having a credit check run soon as I am moving to a new apartment. I seem to recall reading somewhere that both of these are considered "hard" checks and triggering several "hard" checks concurrently is a bad idea. Should I hold off on applying for a new card?

Unless you're planning on buying a house or a car it won't matter. I would apply for the card first because the rental company is unlikely to care about a small drop in your score.
