The guy who let me drive his was 42. Almost everyone I know that drives any Evo is in their late 30's. How many kids do you know that can afford $40K+ sports sedans?

Oh I didn't take it like that. But really, the Focus RS is the same type of car and it's not exactly something a young person can get their hands on unless they're from a wealthy family.

I like the EvoX styling more than the RS if anyone cares.

I'm also not planning on a purchase until after Feb when we get married. Prices on EvoX's are starting to slip a bit, there's a perfect one for $29K equipped as I would want, in the right color and still stock with stupid low mileage. I'm sure that a year from now I can find one for a good enough deal.

Unless I manage to sell all this dumb crap filling up my life and someone came along to buy the MS6 for $8K. I could probably convince the fiance to let me buy the car if I had 2/3 of the cash.

I've seen this car around a fair bit (my mate used to live on the next street), and admittedly, not to my taste, but really? People will stump up that sort of money for a Celica Supra that (1) has been hosed about with, and (2) has a borked engine?

Should've kept the 5M in in and used the 7M head and wedged ITBs on it IMO. 7Ms only spin bearings if they lose oil pressure so there's some other janky poo poo gone on there too.

Bought my daughter a generic power-wheels jeep-shaped car a couple of months ago. She's so terrified of it that I had to cover it with a tarp so she couldn't see it in the garage. I decided to strip the stickers off of it and slam a billion Frozen wall decals on it in an attempt to make her like it. She's totally into it now, but only as a static display piece. She approves of it until it moves, either under it's own power, or being pushed by me.

Progress, at least.

You shared it with a dick.

I'm gen X and I can't afford a $40k car. I can afford 4 $8000 cars though, which I'd rather do anyway.

Although I spent sunday morning drooling over a new V60 Polestar, holy poo poo. Not only was it gorgeous, it was the fastest Volvo in attendance at the import drags. If I sold all my other cars and parts I could get one and have tons of room in my garage. Actually tempting.

haha basically. I could technically get a $40,000 car on a regular old note if I wanted to but I have been extremely blessed

i should note that if i did get a $40,000 vehicle my wife would be a massive stressball because it'd be cutting it close on our budget :rip:

I'm fortunate enough that I could afford a 40k car, but I'm a cheapskate who hates depreciation and prioritizes other stuff (emergency fund, retirement, college fund for kid, vacation fund). I am thinking of spending about 30k on my next (used) car but my wife is telling me "no." She spends too much on everything she buys daily, but panics when I suggest a large one time expenditure because it has more digits than she's used to. It's very frustrating. I'm the primary earner in the household by 2x and am diligent about saving and earning; she fritters away money like it comes from trees, then digs her heels in when I want to buy something for myself.

I can't wait until my kid is out of daycare, it will be a 20k/year raise.

I keep saying that to myself but I know it's a lie. After school clubs, sports, music classes, clothes, food, etc etc... She's gonna cost just as much if not more as she grows.

I could swing the $40k car if I wanted to, but not comfortably enough to be worth it. Rather put money into savings and dig the wife out of student loans/medical debt.

At about 14 I began to recognize that if you remove

$20k a year in childcare costs from age 0-3
$40k a year in childcare costs from age 3-18
$100k a year in college fund from age 18-23
$5k a year in "My kid needs to buy an Evo X but ended up having his own kids so now he wants me to dip into my retirement" fund from age 23-42

Then all the funds for yourself get real full, you can buy those crazy presents for your nieces and nephews that their MEAN parents won't buy them, eventually your mattress also fills up with $100 bills with no kids stealing them and you end up having to find dumb things to spend money on, like $40k cars.
