I'm not surprised to see some dissent in the Tory ranks. It's one thing to be ideologically Conservative and want them to win, but it must be exasperating when your leader is falling apart in the face of the election she herself called.

I can't help but feel that she's still going to win because the campaign time was so short. There's just not enough time for how terrible May is to sink in. So now we get to see exactly how hosed we are but can't prevent it. I knew she was bad, she's a Tory. But she's not just bad, she's inept and unstable. She'll crash this country into the abyss if she thinks it'll give her a legacy.

Strom Cuzewon posted:So tonights debate is going to be 7-way? How can you have anything resembling a sensible discussion with 7 people trying to put their point across? It's going to be an absolute clusterfuck. It's worth remembering that this 7-way format was first implemented at the insistence of master political operator Davey Cameron prior to the 2015 GE (he threatened not to turn up unless it included everybody). The general consensus was that this was because the idea of a head-to-head debate with Milliband loving terrified him, because he wouldn't be able to get away with his non-answer, soundbitey deflection bollocks that works so well at PMQs. By making it a 7 way the debate (as intended) becomes utterly unmanageable and incoherent and probably nothing and nobody can meaningfully stand out or make an impression unless somebody has a compete meltdown and monopolises all the post-event reporting. The goal was to allow David's empty rhetoric sort of merge into the general background noise, instead of being the centre of attention. All of which makes May's probable refusal to participate even more hilarious, because this entire format was designed explicitly to protect tories who can't function in a grown up debate, and she can't even handle that.

Arguing about other leaders and if they could have beaten May is irrelevant cos she wouldn't have called an election if Labour weren't 20% behind.
