ADWR gameplay suuuuuuucked, every floor-door-chest-switch was trapped and locked regardless of whether it was the kings dungeon or a random slum, and you had to stealth everywhere and it was just unbelieveably slow and tedious. I don't want to turn this into NWN chat, but does anyone remember the Jon Koca mods? What a weird combination of Lovecraftian elements and things like a character named the Black Fist who true to his namesake would commit certain deeds to the PC. Honestly a lot of the modules kind of feel like a fever dream, I feel like you could make a decent LP about diving through all of them

marshmallow creep posted:i think you need good enough stats in agility, endurance and charisma to do it well, and certain minimum to even get the job. Anyone can be a "fluffer" too if you don't have the stats to actually perform, I think, and doing that results in being poisoned. It was points-based based on a few things with some minimums, if memory serves. Like having Sex Appeal as a trait and Kama-Sutra Master as a perk helped as did loving everything you could along the way. There were certain attribute minimums (I want to say that Charisma didn't affect it all that much?) but endurance and agility were the big ones. A sexy Chosen One who went around humping everything willing had an easier time becoming a porn star. I think there were also special things you could do if you managed to find all the porn mags. I never did manage to accomplish that one; only ever got like 6.

i remember that cat. he thought it was hysterical that he had an adult-rated mod on the nexus that basically had no traditional porn content, just poo poo like the the Black Fist jamming both hands up the PC's butthole. i want to stress here that he told me this poo poo, i was always too busy trying to sort crap out for PW story servers to play many single player modules. he was a weird dude and i told him so. on the note of 'weirdest module you ever played', though, In The Footsteps Of Dante definitely takes the cake. some dude made all the circles of hell based off close literal readings of the divine comedy, and then put you in the role of going down to the bottom to recover 'something very important' to your companions. you have a choice between Dak'kon, Annah, and Fall-from-Grace. yes, THAT Dak'kon, Annah, and Fall-from-Grace. i ended up reclaiming the bottled essence of The Nameless One by clicking a 9-sentence long dialog choice that apparently out-lawyered literal Satan or something. i know i was talking to literal Satan at any rate. Oh, I meant FR and D&D books in general; there are a lot of epic plots that I recall hearing about back in the day that would get completely drained of any kind of drama if more aspects of the setting were taken into account. Dragon-led orc invasion, and your beloved lawful good royal family sacrificed themselves to stop it, along with most of the people who actually knew how to run the kingdom? Here's Bob, the mid-level lawful good Cleric. He can cast Raise Dead multiple times per day. Where do you want him to start? I've heard a bit more about the BG books from one of the LPs, however, and they do indeed get worse. Your guess to the romance is accurate, and I recall someone saying they trash Khalid's characterization in the process, just to make the MC look better.. You know, I just recalled a Greyhawk module that did take those sorts of things into account, a murder mystery where a group of low-level PCs get invited to a family gathering of high-to-epic level adventurers. The murderer in question is very careful about doing things in a way where divination spells wouldn't give the game up, and one of the first things they do is the gank the family's Cleric before they can make with the Resurrections.

The author of the first two Baldur's Gate books actively hated being told to write an adaptation and banged them out in between commercial breaks on the TV- Throne of Bhaal's was written by Drew Karpyshyn. Also, by Forgotten Realms canon policy, they overwrite the games. So everyone but the protagonist is dead, until he died in the 5E module Murder in Baldur's Gate and resurrected Bhaal somehow. The Planescape novel was based off an earlier version of the script, where Fjull Fork-Tongue was secretly behind it all- the Nameless One pledged his soul to the Blood War to spare his village, then sought out Ravel to prolong his fate as long as possible.Coolguye posted:i on the note of 'weirdest module you ever played', though, In The Footsteps Of Dante definitely takes the cake. some dude made all the circles of hell based off close literal readings of the divine comedy, and then put you in the role of going down to the bottom to recover 'something very important' to your companions. you have a choice between Dak'kon, Annah, and Fall-from-Grace. yes, THAT Dak'kon, Annah, and Fall-from-Grace.
