So despite its slick, modern nature Persona 5 is still not free of *random party/MC one-turn wipe; set down controller and just walk away* moments It's a Megami Tensei tradition after all! thankfully there's many more save points now so you're never like re-doing 45 minutes of work or something

And it's mostly a threat in early/midgame since once you start maxing party links, especially after palace 4, it's nigh-impossible to die.

I guess I'm too low level or something since some random floating angel thing slaughtered my entire party with a single "light" damage spell. No weaknesses hit or anything, just mondo damage

There are enemies that are invisible without the using the third eye? I don't remember that. I remember getting ambushed while I was below maximum health and getting crubstomped a few times. The confidant abilities make it a lot easier to handle encounters but until you get a decent tool box it's easy enough to get unlucky and wipe. I wish the "get help from other Phantom Thieves" concept was used a little more, instead of just being limited to the rare times and enemy takes a character hostage. I want to see more stupid gang names.

If you ambush a shadow while other shadows are around the others will disappear. they usually reappear after a short while after battle, but sometimes they won't, and instead leave a little glowing red spot that you can only see in 3rd eye. if you get too close they'll pop out and ambush you like all Persona games, P5's difficulty comes from unlucky chains of events and insta kill spells. most of it can be mitigated, but you'll still have times where an enemy ambushes you and confuses Ryuji who then curbstomps your MC into the dirt

In the first dungeon, any enemy that glows red and has fire around them when you use the third eye thing should probably be avoided unless you don't have a choice in the matter or can definitely ambush them. After that point you probably have strong enough Personas to handle them, but in the first dungeon, they'll gently caress you up hard.
