I tried the commentary track and it was good. A bit of redundancy with other stuff I've heard about the show (e.g. Josherme) but if they had the juice for them I'd listen to more. It's nice to hear about cut content that still influenced stuff that got left in.

Flop House is like if MST3K was annoying, and not funny. Guy Branum is also, actually, good. Hth

Oh good, circle the fuckin wagon boys! Someone brought up the interstitial Max Fun ads! Commence dropping your posting-trow and get to just indiscriminately making GBS threads opinions everywhere. I'm just glad we have this fresh new topic to really inject some life into the thread. That flop house guys voice though....!!!?? You know? I mean, seriously. You know. Speaking of voices, I can't tell the McElroys apart! I know what Griffin can't tell apart! Ahem....player driven narrative and DM railroading. And I think that about covers all of it. Ya fuckin jackals.

I'm not trying to be antagonistic here, but how did you find him in his host-segment appearances (sleazy time traveler doctor and widdle baby)? I've never found him particularly obnoxious, so I'm curious.

Edit: I dislike these discussions because they usually go on for several pages and rarely (if ever) contain anything more interesting than "I like Elliot" or "I don't like Elliot", meaning that they are not only off topic but boring. Is this basically the Maximum Fun thread as well? I know other network shows get talked about from time to time, but I don't think I've really seen anyone here post about The Greatest Generation that much. Does anyone listen to it? I think it's pretty good. They just put out a bonus episode about Crimson Tide which I thought was also pretty good.

It's kind of become the de facto Maxfun/Polygon thread yeah. Also on that note, is dead pilots society any good?

Eh, I'd say it might be worth making a thread for non-mcelroy content if just because there's enough of it that this thread gets stuffed with it already -- but I don't really know how busy the rest of this subforum gets and if it's worth that effort. I think the last time I looked through the list of threads was when I tried to find one for Friends at the Table (which didn't exist and I might make once I'm finally caught up w/ it if someone better at making OPs doesn't make one first)

Podcast ads are universally terrible. I really like how One Bad Mother tried to sell itself as "A Comedy Podcast ABOUT parenting," as if to say "You don't have to have kids to enjoy this show!" Then they'd play a clip on par with those "Comedy - for Moms, BY Moms!!!" stand-up showcases that ran on Nick Jr. After Dark for a while. I finally started listening to The Flop House recently, despite its nonstop barrage of bad ads. It's a good bad movie podcast that occasionally pushes into transcendentally funny territory, and you really get over the fact that they are 3 men with literal cartoon voices pretty quickly. (Elliot's off-key, tuneless singing never, EVER becomes funny. Keep beating that dead horse, though.) Robiben posted:RATED R! This is the only good Flop House ad and also one of my favorite recurring jokes, and I didn't even grow up with MovieFone! Scudworth posted:Or the one with the guy who insists on pronouncing things only in their original form (the guy saying Uluru in the commercial)- This ad is great and I laugh at it every single drat time; "Uluru" is the best god drat punchline. It does not make me want to listen to the show, however.

I haven't actually heard an ad for another podcast in a long time since I just skip through the money zone every time. I remember them being generally inoffensive but they also didn't hook me. But I also wouldn't have started listening to the McElroys without the samplers, so I think the ads aren't very useful. Also, The McElroys Will Be in Trolls 2 is the funniest drat thing they've made in a while. And the podcasts have been pretty good. Joel needs to make more appearances, and as a fan of S-Town, Justin's parody of it is absolutely perfect.

TACD posted:The MBMBaM money zone segments are quite literally the only advertising in any medium that I don't go out of my way to block or avoid. I really respect them for being willing to (presumably) let sponsors go rather than 'stay on message'; they make sponsorship just another natural segment of the show and ultimately it allows them to advertise pretty much anything without tarnishing their own personal brand. The McElroys definitely have the best ad sections in the business but I skip past them and save about 10 minutes on each podcast, which helps because I'm keeping up on like twenty podcasts.
