I don't know about that one specifically but the Metrodome (referenced earlier for its roof collapsing) had two layers and hot air was pumped between them to keep the upper layer warm enough to melt snow.

The tents are massive and able to support a fair amount of snow, but not enough for what actually happens to fall in Minnesota :v:

That was a crazy winter, even for Minnesota. If memory serves, that was the same year that the Twin Cities had to start hauling snow out of where they dumped it because there was so much that there was a possibility that it wouldn't all melt over the spring and summer. It was a whole bunch of big storms that did in the Metrodome roof, in quick succession, so the normal heating process couldn't clear it all off before the next storm hit. Basically a perfect storm kinda thing.

As for how common those bubble domes are, they were in vogue back when I was a kid, but they're all gone now, as far as I'm aware. The one at the nearby college got taken out by a tornado, and they ended up being more prone to spring and summer storm damage than expected (airborne debris is a bitch), so the cost was higher than expected over the life of the building.

It definitely was, but the amount of snow we got that year was definitely not outside the realm of possibility. If you're going to build a roof like that in Minnesota, it had better be able to withstand a hell of a lot of snow.

Based on some of the maps I'm seeing from a quick search, it would be close.

Two inches? Try more than 3 feet in the closest states. The entire southern 50 will be covered by ash to some extent as well as large chunks of Canada and Mexico, plunging pretty much most of the continent into the equivalent of nuclear winter.

Huh the one natural disaster that Miami would not be affected by. Of corse by the time Yellowstone goes, Miami would most likely be underwater completely like a modern day Atlantis.
