My guess is that there was a big telly up near the stage or whatever, he suddenly realised he was on camera after a second, tried to compose himself in a suitably ministerial and dignified manner while applauding, and hosed it completely.

I'm not complaining about your spelling but "grin and bare" takes on a whole new meaning. I like the idea that Michael Gove's missus is maniacally trying to drive him insane by telling the world how terrible he is in bed.

I thought about doing the other spelling but I imagined that that was wrong because grin and bear it sounds like she's trying to get through it by imagining herself Grizzly Manning her incompetent lover as he fails to "Negotiate Brexit" as it were. And by Grizzly Manning I mean that I imagine Werner Hertzog watching the sex tape before turning to Good Morning Britain and telling them never to play the tape.

I have an odd relationship with the film Brazil because when I was young someone recorded a disney film or something over the tape with Brazil on it, but the way they did it, it cuts from near the end of the Disney movie to sort of half way through Brazil and I watched it and got very very confused and a bit disturbed. For a long time I didn't actually realize that it was a separate film because it's sufficiently surreal that I thought it was part of the film I was watching.

vodkat posted:I'm not sure what wet and dry tories are, but they sound even more repulsive than your normal run of the mill tory. So the terms have drifted a bit from their original meanings but broadly it's one of the main divisions in the party. The names came about because Thatcher (or possibly one of her advisers) began referring to Geoffrey Howe and a few of her Cabinet who began to advise that monetarist shock therapy had gone too far, especially in light of the Brixton and Toxteth Riots, as being "wet", and the more dead-eyed of her followers started calling themselves "Dries" in contrast. Like I say the definition has drifted a lot over the intervening years (particularly as the party is much more homogeneous economically) and is more to do with attitudes to social policy. It's nowhere near as strong a division as it once was, mainly because they've all got Europe to be divided over instead. FWIW Cameron, Gideon and co were seen as quite wet while Gove, IDS, and Jeremy "Hunt" oval office are all as dry as the grave (and indeed got their cabinet roles purely because Cameron needed to balance the Cabinet to keep the Monday Club onside). May, as with most things, is a windsock who tries to pretend to be both.
