Of course strictly even seawater hydrates you, it just also fucks up your salt levels and causes your body to kill itself.

There's still a week to go, the rate the polls are going and the momentum on Labour's side... I'd probably describe it as hydrating you but also giving you salt poisoning. High salt intake will kill you even if you drink a lot of water with it, your body has a maximum salinity it can tolerate before the sodium just fucks up your other functions too much. Sapozhnik posted:State intelligence services were crawling all over the Labour party back in the 80s or thereabouts because they might have Soviet infiltrators (which tbf they probably did) but oh no when there's rumours about the dodgy foreign connections of a hard-right nationalist party in the modern day then tapping their phones is not the done thing all of a sudden. Wonder why that might be. They really weren't, to the point they had no idea Tam Dalyell was having regular meetings with Oleg Gordievsky, then the KGB resident in London, even though Gordievsky was actually an SIS agent. Well the two officers handling Gordievsky knew but didn't feel the need to share with anyone else because Dalyell wasn't giving Gordievsky anything and it was considered way too big a risk to possibly tip off the KGB, who were strongly suspected to have infiltrated both services, by spreading the knowledge any further. Neither Special Branch or MI5 (or indeed Dalyell*) knew about the meetings until Gordievsky's memoir came out. Now they were certainly crawling all over the unions, CND, and the near-infinite fringe parties with names like The Socialist Party of You and Me and I'm Not Sure About Me but the excesses of the Young Turks' molehunt in the seventies had led to them backing right off Labour itself. * Obviously Dalyell knew about the meetings but as far as he was aware Gordievsky was simply a diplomat interested in talking about Britain - and as it turns out even if Dalyell had accidentally let anything slip, Gordievsky barely understood a word of it because of Dalyell's accent and just made up his reports back to Moscow.

jabby posted:There's a distinct 'who cares' attitude to the campaign right now, and it seems to be working really well. There's a sort of easy confidence about Labour right now. That coupled with a manifesto that's really progressive in a lot of areas (even if it's not everything I could hope for) and this might be the most positive I've felt about a potential Labour government in my adult life. Next Thursday is going to be a loving nail biter, and if Labour lose it's going to be hard - not because of any bollocks about Labour's internal politics or Corbyn, but because there seems to be the shadow of a chance of actually making life a bit better for a lot of people, and it'll be a real shame to see it missed. In 2015 I wanted Labour to win because they couldn't be as bad as the tories. This time I want them to win for positive reasons.

High salt intake will kill you even if you drink a lot of water with it, your body has a maximum salinity it can tolerate before the sodium just fucks up your other functions too much. It's all about whether the liquid you're taking in is saltier than the saltiest urine your kidneys can produce. If it is, every millilitre you drink will result in you producing more than a millilitre of urine, and you'll dehydrate. If it's less salty than the urine your kidneys can produce then you can excrete the salt and hang on to some of the water, and it will hydrate you.
