As I said on the last page, Labour's best result there was 39% back in the days when the Liberals didn't even run a candidate. 2015's 35% was their 2nd best result. It's be genuinely fantastic for Labour to win Hallam for the first time ever & throw that snake on the dole at the same time.

Are the Russians MOMENTUM hacking the election???

quote:

Just a quick question which I would usually post on UKPolitics but it's such a poo poo show there with the momentum take over that I thought I'd post here.

In fact it's very much on the same topic... Would it be possible for an organisation like momentum to sign up on mass to join opinion polls such as yougov to swing those polls in their favour?

I'm pretty sure if this was happening it would be called out by the alt media but these hard left types seem to be very good at getting coach loads of followers to get involved in such things.

One thing that really bugs me is humanity's fetishisation of animals that are really crap at living in the world we've made, and our all-out hatred of the ones that are really good at it. People hate raccoons, rats and grey squirrels, but they idolise pandas and red squirrels.

I get wanting to preserve biodiversity, but going on bloody massacres against the animals that are actually able to make it on their own is insane.

This is really dumb, invasive species are probably the single most damaging element to biodiversity that results from human action. Maybe I'm biased a bit since I used to live in Northern Australia, but the ridiculous amounts of Cane Toads and Rabbits really showed how much everything can get thrown out of whack and you ultimately end up with a profoundly different and usually much less bio-diverse environment. Cane Toads tend to ruin native predator populations (and even domestic animals like dogs) as well as displace most other amphibians and rabbits strip huge areas of vegetation bare, which is really bad in Australia since its so dry that plant life lives an already tenuous existence without their pressure, rabbits are very strongly associated with soil erosion as a result. That's not even getting into other creatures like Foxes or Wild Boar.

Also I hate the meme of Pandas being crap at living and that they should be left to go extinct. They're actually perfectly fine at living in their normal environment and their much mocked reproductive difficulties are actually pretty much what you always get with animals that size and habit (Rhinos for example also don't breed much in captivity either), they are vital parts of their ecosystem that help disperse Bamboo over huge areas, its just that said ecosystem is constantly being encroached upon and as a result the area they can actually live in gets dangerously constrained and fragmented. The rationale that Pandas should be left to go extinct because they can't shake it in the modern world logically extend to just about every single threatened animal alive today since the same logic applies, at that point the whole idea of environmentalism might as well be dropped. In any event Pandas are useful from an ultra pragmatic environmentalist point of view since they need a large area set aside to live in which intrinsically brings along a big protected area for other less famous threatened creatures like Snub nosed monkeys or Takins.

A 'Corbyn win' would be him going to the queen asking to form a government.
You've for a long time held the view that Corbyn is harming the Labour party by staying in power because he is widely seen as unelectable. Letting him fight a General Election and suffer a loss would finally demonstrate this and then he should resign, and a new leader could recover Labour back to being electable. Fair enough: whether or not people agree with this stance, you've been pretty clear and consistent in this view.

Genuine question for you: If Labour gains seats, but the result is still a Conservative majority (or a hung Parliament that results in a Tory minority/coalition) - do you still think that Corbyn should resign? Or would a simple gain in seats cause you to re-assess your view of him and consider that he should stay as Labour's leader and gear up to fight the next election?
