Jose posted:this election has been a proper roller coaster It has been much more enjoyable than I thought, when it was first called I was genuinely devastated at the idea I'd have to pay attention to UK politics again. I do think its gonna have a tragic ending but mainly because: A) If i have hope I will be completely distraught on election day when the tories return a majority of 100 MPs despite all evidence to the contrary and B) Shock turnarounds against the polls only benefit evil, never good.

Jose posted:i don't think anyone expected may to be that much worse a candidate than clinton There's a massive narrative overlap between Trump and Corbyn. The media in their respective countries were both overwhelmingly against them, they both faced significant resistance from members of their own party, their opponent is one of the most unlikable people in electoral history. I also think (with no evidence at all) that Labour voters will be way more motivated to turn out than the Tories after May's complete poo poo show. My money (if I had any to bet) would be on Conservatives losing their majority.

corbyn was deeply unpopular with long time labour voters in a way that never happened for trump then the tories did the worst possible thing and release a manifesto that properly fucks over old people lol

i feel like putting a really loving stupid bet on a hung parliament, both leaders being kicked out and then the tories getting a majority at a second election with Yvette cooper in charge of labour

jBrereton posted:You have to wonder why they wouldn't just have that policy in their heads as a thing to do but obviously not put it in the manifesto because how insanely stupid do you have to be to think printing "gently caress the old and their inheritors" is going to go down with people in general. Sheer hubris. They probably saw all the great polling and assumed that people actually want a Tory agenda, and not that they're backing Conservatives for Brexit.
