News: Mysterious illegal cookies seized. "Tastes terrible," says police.

I hated the Thug style. Most of my 1 on 1 fights were just spamming the slugger's bat nunchuck move, or going full dumb in breakdance mode. See how much THEY like being stunlocked

update: i spent three hours in the beginning of chapter 2 trying to figure out what the gently caress "behind the theater square" means by running up to every building and pressing x. instead of advancing the plot, I: started slot-car racing, coached a punk band on how to be punk, stopped a schoolgirl from selling her underwear, coached a dominatrix, and pretended to be a TV producer.

this game is the best game and when i grow up i want to be kiryu

Yeah, I don't know how, but this game manages to make accidentally starting side quests really fun instead of annoying as gently caress.

Thug style lets you kick people over railings into the river, so it is the best.

That's because the sidequests are interesting and memorable, unlike something like Farcry where you get 1500000 sidequests that are mostly variations on the same thing.

Stumbling into sidequests is honestly the best part of every Yakuza game. The fighting is fun and all, and the plot is usually exciting enough, but getting into things like producing a commercial shoot despite having no qualification, or discreetly buying a porno mag for a child, or accidentally having a dance contest with Michael Jackson is what really endears me to these games. As much as it frustrated me, doing Manzai as Haruka in 5 was probably my favorite part of the whole drat game.

I think it helps that there are 2 distinct categories of side quests: oneshots and ongoing. Oneshots take maybe 5-15 minures, but then you're done. Ongoing take maybe 5 minutes, but then you can just go back to what you were doing an continue them later.

Also the lack of icons making GBS threads up your map means you either stumble on them organically, or have to explore thoroughly to find them... During which you will stumble on more organically.

I guess technically there is a 3rd category, which is retriable ones. When you beat them, they're done, but you aren't locked into them until you do.

Something made me want to take a look at Amazon's info for Kiwami, and was sort of upset that none of their screenshots nor the video showed the surprise Majima fights. What I was not upset by, though, was this wonderful thing:

August can't come fast enough. I need this dang game.

e: Also, there appears to still be slot car races? Interesting addition.

I assume most people here know this, but for "surprisingly excellent side-quests" basically nothing beats The Witcher 3. This is shaping up to be an easy second place so far, though.

I'm a little butthurt I can't put on alternate outfits until the end of the game. I guess the cutscenes are pre-rendered? Playing dress up is one of my favorite bits in any video game, though I think I read somewhere in this thread you get to play dress up on your employees at some point?

Some are pre-rendered, yeah, but that doesn't usually stop games from letting you. Just a conscious point on Sega's end for whatever reason.

You read correctly, however.

The average Yakuza side quest is way more entertaining than the average Witcher side quest.

I like Witcher 3's quests a lot, but because they are so in-depth, it's really annoying to get pulled into one.

I'm still irrationally angry at the camera crew for explaining what they meant after I did what they asked.

All of Majima's fighting styles are good and I often find myself switching between all three on the fly.

Brawler was the only Kiryu style in which I don't get instantly stunned and knocked down.

You know how they say you can never have too much of a good thing? That's mostly true, except for Majima showing up so often that the novelty dies off pretty quickly and then you keep finding yourself in these annoying long fights when you just wanted to go to the batting cages.

The timing for disco is so brutally unforgiving I have a hard time having fun with it.

It's a really neat concept for a minigame, but it feels like there's literally a 1-frame window to hit the buttons.

It's a bit more lenient than that but it's definitely not huge. I kind of feel like it's going to be easier on PS3 'cos of the frame rate being lower.

I push it when the timing square is on the outside border of the targeted square and it usually gets it right. It's super easy to lose your place and not see the correct order though because it's so visually busy and distracting.

Ugh, grinding real estate takes forever. I could be at 78% in the Gambling King area by now if betting on catfights wasn't terrible poo poo, but as it is I guess I'll just keep giving money to Michael Jackson for his expert investment advice.

I'd like to to get on with the plot at this point (chapter 10), but I also want to unlock Kiryu's fourth style before I get back to the story so it looks like I'll be stuck with real estate for a while.

Josuke Higashikata

If I recall correctly, it takes around 20 hours of playtime or so but it's also basically impossible to not succeed at and your profits tick over in the background pretty safely 9/10 times (meaning you won't have to go to kamuro and fight some dudes and can idle in the real estate office) so you could just leave it going while you netflix or something

That's my main problem with it. I enjoy it, but holy poo poo. There's so much going on at once at times, especially in the faster songs.
