So, i got a +atk/-def (i think) 5* cordelia, merged a silver cordelia for astra and some of the TA and pass skills. So i have a good amount of sp for her. What should i give her?

(Same pull i got a 4* nino, yaaaaay. Gave her +attack3. Anything else i should give her? Vantage, of course. What else? Forgot her +/-)

The cheaper version (ie, no 5* mulches) of Nino's maximum overcheese powerbuild is Fury 3, Desperation 3, Moonbow (since her blade tome gives a slowdown to the special charge), and whatever C skill (Threaten Res if you're feeling super cheesy). Fury pushes her into Desperation range quickly, which lets her attack archers, mages and Distant Counter users without getting hit back, since her defenses are garbage. The other option is Life or Death (2 should be fine, since she's not running a quad build), with Ardent Sacrifice/Reciprocal Aid to bring her to Desperation range.

She's fine as-is tho, so waiting until you have the components for your ideal build isn't too painful, and you'll probably get like six so building up two for max SP is easy. You'll have lots of chances to make her your perfect waif-wait shes like 12 scratch that last bit

Alright, it's been fifteen minutes since I mentioned Nino, so let's do the Blue and Green Mages!

Back to the first post in the guide.

Green Mages :mrgw:

There are eight green mages total, and three budget ones again. I'll tackle Cecilia with the rest of the cavalry, since horse emblem is a Thing that is relevant to her build and will have to be covered first. Robin is available from an absolute fucker of a GHB, while Nino is available from gacha at 3-4*.

:siren:Nino:siren::derp::krakken: is flat out, without argument, one of the best characters in the game. At four stars. She is the reason every arena defence team has to answer the question "will we all be horribly murdered by a dyslexic fourteen year old girl?", and the answer is usually "yes". Her statline is an example of minmaxing done right, with terrible hp and def, "eh" res, good attack and excellent speed. With an easily obtained +spd nature and a skill boosting it, she will double any character in the game that isn't a fellow speed freak. Combined with her Gronnblade tome, a simple hone/rally attack will add an eye-watering 16 points of damage over the turn. With a build assembled for 4-6k feathers, Nino will beat anything the game devs can throw at you and most of what the other players can to boot. Her only downside is that she's not quite as good on when controlled by the AI on your defence team, as it has trouble stacking buffs and piloting glass cannon characters in general. On the inheritance front, everything you need from Nino is available at 3*. Her Gronnblade is available if you want to give it to a worsetankier green mage or Cecilia for horse emblem, and it's so good that the + version is more of a cherry on top than absolutely necessary. Drag back is her assist, and it's situationally useful for cheesing GHBs. Her +res A skill is decent and flat stat buffs are underappreciated in general, although it's not worth 2k feathers just to promote her for it.

Robin: Mystery Tactician (also known as Female Robin, Frobin and Robinne), is... not Nino. Nor is she her male counterpart. These two disadvantages aside, her stat spread is fairly flexible: she has high hp for a mage, atk, def and spd all in the "passable but not quite good" range, and very poor res. Unfortunately, as a GHB unit, she doesn't have IV's to alter her across-the-board mediocrity, leaving her just kinda there. Compounding this, her inbuilt Gronnwolf is overly specialised, and her skills don't let her do anything she shouldn't by rights be doing already. Either rebuild her into a female... Robin with Gronnraven and Triangle Adept, or just keep her levelled up and kicking around for the occasional cavalry heavy GHB. FRobin is the game's sole source of B-Tomebreaker at present, an interesting meta choice to let blue mages (who aren't Reinhardt) deal with blue mages (who also aren't Reinhardt, since his build means that he'll either kill the enemy if he initiates, or get killed if they initiate on him). Her special is Ignis, blah blah slower charge bonfire yadda yadda.

So there's the green infantry mages, one Nino and one not-Nino.

Blue Mages:shopkeeper:

There are nine blues, with three falling under budget criteria (and two in time limited special gacha who will possibly never be seen again :shepspends:). Again, I'll cover Ursula with the cavalry rather than here. Both of the other two are only available from the gacha (and possibly from missions, because those are fun and we enjoy them!)

Odin is the blue answer to Henry, in almost every sense of the word. He has very high hp, decent speed, mediocre def and res, and bad, bad bad attack. With his poor defensive stats, he's actually even worse at his job than Henry, since the best he can do is survive a hit without getting doubled. He's the only -Blade tome user not worthy of the name, since his cripplingly poor attack and won't-double-much speed means he needs constant support just to be capable. Fortunately, like Henry, Odin is brilliant for skill inheritance. His Blarblade is better on any blue mage that isn't him, and he comes with the Moonbow special, the fastest charging attack special in the game. Although overrated (it reduces the enemy's defensive stat by 30%, meaning that i) it deals damage based on someone else's stats rather than your own, and A) deals between 6-11 damage rather than the 15-20 offered by a well chosen Bonfire/Iceberg/Draconic Aura), it's good on characters without standout stats in any area (like dancers) who want a special to get by, or characters wielding -blade tome like weapons who suffer a special slowing downside. To cap it all off, he's the only source of R Tomebreaker, which isn't useful in the current meta but will be there when you need it.

Robin: High Deliverer (also known as Male Robin, Mrobin and That Fucker Who Triggers A Whole Video Whenever He Shows Up At 3 Stars Like He's The King Of loving Portugal Or Something, gently caress) is the male version of female Robin, funnily enough. He shares exactly the same statline, with the advantage of variable IVs to allow for different builds and strengths. On top of that, he has the Blarraven Tome as standard, giving him an inbuilt specialisation that's actually pretty useful. Robin will do the job of your blue mage until something better turns up, and stick around as a niche specialist after that. Raven tomes, unlike Blades, need to be fully upgraded to complete a build, but inheriting one onto your mage of choice while you finish your 37 other projects is fine. His special is Bonfire, if you want to save your Tikis for something else. His other skills are decidedly meh.

That's the infantry mages, who are there and exist. Next up: Archers!:downsgun:

Pulled a 4* -Atk/+Spd ATiki. That's her worst build, right? Am I going to regret raising her to 40? I read that she will destroy greens, other reds, and archers in Murderion's post and was looking forward to red, green, and archer death, but now I'm not sure if she'll still kill all those things.

Will the +Spd protect her from being doubled by many things or make it worth putting a Speed +3 skill on her to protect her from being doubled by things? Seems like she's not doubling anything any, so -Atk isn't too terrible and +Spd with a Spd +3 skill should give her +6 speed, which seems like enough to make sure she's only getting double by things that are pretty fast, rather than virtually everything.

Basically, I'm not sure if this makes her bad or actually makes her better, given that I imagine she basically wants to bait people and then eat them and being doubled by fewer people means she can bait more people without getting maimed.

-atk is bad because you want to give her quick riposte, which does let her double things

+spd and a speed buff will probably let her escape being doubled by some things though. Tossing fury on will help with that too.

Quick Riposte is good because it's immediately useful when you're attacked, and not afterwards. You want the fool who attacked you to be dead now, not later.

If you want her to stat debuff, give her a Threaten C skill like Threaten Res or whatever. That way if someone she doesn't kill something with Quick Riposte, you can probably finish it off.

Just adding to this, Seal is pretty lame because the unit who has it doesn't really get to benefit from its effects unless the effected enemy unit attacks it on the enemy phase. Threaten is pretty decent though, as long as an enemy ends their turn within two spaces. I'm planning on putting threaten res on Mae so she can turtle up behind other guys and turbo-nuke on player phase.

Best doesn't necessarily mean, kills the best. She makes everyone around her better regardless of the map/team, all by herself she is arguably the best buffer for ~blade tomes, she doesn't tank your BST/Arena score like Cavalry teams do, she's great for buffing up a unit you're trying to level-up, she checks many of the current meta's units, checks even more of them with the right skills (sup Swordbreaker), and even those that hard-counter her (sup Linde) are usually polished off by the units that will be attached to her hip regardless (sup Nino). Folks always seem to measure "best" characters in wins on the damage calculator, but these match-ups don't happen in a vacuum. By being the only unit that is helpful in every aspect of this game, yeah, I'm still saying Eirika is the best character.

She's a melee glass cannon but doesn't seem to be strong enough to pull it off even with incest quad buffs.
Fury 3 is a must followed by Ardent Sacrifice. She wants the ability to fly around the map with her teleportation axe asap, so HP control is what you need. Other helpful skills include Glimmer, Threaten defense and Desperation.

Seal Def/Spd is good on tanky units that can't afford a relevant Counter skill. Like my Barst runs Seal Def because Oboro is a dirty easy sacrifice he's not going to get much use out of any of the other popular B-skills and dropping an enemy's Def just by being hit makes them easy Brave Axe fodder next turn.

Two turns > buffs in almost almost all cases if the rest of your team isn't complete garbage.
