Apparently the whole incident from when the van went up on the pavement to the last suspect being shot lasted only 8 minutes. The footage from inside the bar which was one of the first things that came out happened just after the last shooting. Everything since then has been clear up and making sure no one else was involved.

I mean I think you can probably do something about the society that produces people willing to do stuff like that, they aren't nutters in the sense that they've taken complete leave of reality, they've consciously rejected the validity of the society they inhabit, not just fallen out of participation with it but actively become opposed to it while also rejecting the possibility of reforming it via nondestructive political engagement. There's quite a few things that have to go wrong before someone decides that violently attacking society is preferable to not doing so.

I have a feeling this one is going to get more coverage than the Manchester bombing, purely because intentionally or not it took place in an area that is a real press hangout. A lot of the eye witnesses on site were hacks themselves, to the point the managing editor of the spectator was on the bridge when the van went on the pavement. There's going to be a whole lot of first hand copy written about this.

corbyn should absolutely go hard on may buddying up to saudi arabia and turkey imo. it's not just about police cuts, although he should go hard on that too, but he should talk about getting to the root of the problem and who is funding and supporting isis, like the bob crow brigade said.

The actual terror attacks themselves don't bug me half as much as the fact they end up working because we seem determined to let them. Half the country loses its poo poo, the press gorges itself for days on the carrion, fash crawl out of their lairs and the government does poo poo like put troops out on the streets. If the aim of these attacks is to demoralise, disrupt and spread hysteria then they're a resounding success.

Honestly I think that the campaign so far has shown that there's a real appetite for not-insane political solutions to problems especially among the young. I think the facade's gonna break but it's not gonna be fascism that takes over.

So I know it's not the most popular thing to say in this thread but can I just say I'm genuinely impressed by Plod's response here - 8 minutes from the first 999 call to the three attackers being stopped, that's almost as quick as their response to the Westminster attack when the guy literally ran directly towards the largest concentration of armed police in the country. Also fuckwits are already saying we need to suspend the election, which is literally the worst possible response. I know it's a cliche but the only thing we as a society can do in response to this is to carry on like nothing at all happened.
