My outlandish opinion is the guy who is #2 on most scouts list and hit a bunch of 3s at 41% while showing NBA range still has a pretty high ceiling (while agreeing his floor isn't great) and that people complain about his dad a lot. That's it, that's all my opinion was.

The fact that I am getting so much kneejerk vitriol for that is weird.

I really did try to think of the nicest way possible to ask that question so sorry if it was vitriolic. I do think it's legitimate to ask though why you are convinced we are wrong and must be because of his dad.

A lot of these scouts form opinions based on maybe one month of college basketball (and sometimes not even that) so I just don't really think their authority is unimpeachable. Especially when the analysis and numbers go against the a lot of the points that have been made about a player.

The stats don't show that Ball's jumper has really bad form (and not just because it's ugly; he will actually have trouble getting it off against NBA defenders) or that he struggles in the half-court. Can't just trust the numbers here.

That being said I think he'll be better than Rick and Dejan do. Not every good NBA PG was a John Wall-esque wunderkind who had perfect passing awareness from the jump.

Isn't there a sports science segment about Ball's jumper that showed it takes the same amount of time as Klay's? Even if the release point is low, you'd think he can get his shot just fine if that's true.

Edit: I'm not crazy! Here's a link to what i was referring to. Basically his shot is both accurate and fast, but if he has to rush his shot it becomes awful.

I mean, if you are saying would I trust you more or a proffesional scout more, I'd probably say a pro scout, if we're having the "appeal to authority" discussion. But mostly its:

Libertine posted:

I strongly dislike Ball but with his size, athleticism, and college skill/stats I have a hard time comping him to anything less than an incredibly skilled guard prospect who would be a slam dunk top 3 pick in almost any draft year.

Corey Brewer comparison seems ludicrous to me.

As much as I want to see the schadenfreude of the Lakers dealing him to a small market team or passing on him, they would be actually insane to not draft him if Fultz goes 1.

I don't think it'd be insane not to draft him #2, but the guy showed NBA range, has great size, and showed skills, and is 19. While I don't watch college ball I have seen a lot of NBA guys with unothrodox shots work in the NBA, so I think the "he'll shoot as bad as Rubio" is very premature. I think he's getting nitpicked because of the spotlight his dad has caused (which is what happens every year at this time) that's not the only reason I don't think you don't like him, but I do think its a factor. Ball is getting way more attention at 2 than Fultz @ 1 or Josh Jackson (a guy who also has jumpshot problems) @ 3.

I read some funny article on how NBA guys aren't cutout for 3on3 because it's a ten minute sprint and you don't get a coach telling you what to do.
