Uh. You, on the 13th of May:

quote:

If Corbyn equals are slightly betters the vote share of Miliband or Brown then I hope he follows their example and resigns as party leader immediately after it becomes apparent he has been unable to deliver a Labour government.

Labour's strategy is to shore up its vote in safe seats at the expense of marginals precisely to give the leadership - and people like you - something to point to as some sort of 'success' in the form of national vote share. I don't think it will work, and it won't be something I find particularly compelling when they're staring across the benches at a Tory government with a 150+ majority.

A majority of the labour membership might agree with them and you, and choose to re-elect Corbyn. If that happens? Goodbye Labour.

Well you see the tories have asked that which means it must be a worthwhile question and we must be fair and balanced.

It's a fair question to ask because it addresses the biggest concern the electorate have with the Labour party. If Labour want to win they need to be able to answer it in a way that convinces people.

The recent trend of one lost election => immediate resignation destabilises individual parties and our entire parliamentary system. I don't doubt that the Lange messer would be out immediately following a loss, but, considering most of the criticism against Corbyn is about his electability, it's pretty much unjustifiable to call for his resignation if he makes any ground at all after a decade of waning support.

e: ^ I'd really like to hear the Tory response to having economics explained to them like they're 5, I'm genuinely disappointed that people aren't firmly rebuking the whole "but you see it's good to give rich people all the money because they'll put a small amount of it back into the economy unlike ordinary people who put all of it back into the economy" thing

While governing strength isn't radically affected between 80 and 150+ that is practically 50% of the earlier claim. If you previously believed Corbyn was going to lose in a landslide and now think he might lose you have shifted your expectations of performance without shifting your assessment of ability. It's like hearing someone say the England manager is poo poo and they're going to lose 5-0 in their next match and then half way through the match, when they seem to be doing much better than expected they go, 'see I always said they were poo poo, I predict a 2-1 drubbing.'

No it's like saying England will lose 6-0 and they actually lose 3-0.

It would take an odd person to think the important part was letting in three fewer goals than expected.

At this point I'm expecting the Tories to win with a ~20 seat majority. But I think there's a ~25% chance of a hung parliament.

It's worth pointing out that taking the worst poll for Labour (11 point Tory lead) and plugging it into the worst model (uniform swing) yields a Tory majority of 84 seats.

This is very negative about on-the-ground experience in the north vs what polls are saying. All worth reading, but this part jumped out:

quote:

One last point is worth noting in judging what is happening on the ground.

The Tories do not look like a party that thinks Labour is threatening a range of their seats in England, which is what the polls suggest.

Based on what Mark Textor said after the 2015 election, we know something of what they are doing. Large scale nightly polling, targeted at specific seats, with questioning framed as per the quote above. At this stage in the campaign, postal votes – which are have been sampled over the past 5 days, giving them an idea of actual vote performance – will also be factored into the mix.

This is then used to shape their social media targeting on Facebook, local newspaper ad buys and visit schedule for the cabinet and leader.

Last Friday, Theresa May visited Doncaster. Specifically she was in Don Valley, Caroline Flint’s constituency, a seat where Labour led the Tories by 21% in 2015. On Saturday, she was in Penistone and Stockbridge, Angela Smith’s seat, where won by 14% over the Tories in 2015. Tonight, May was in Bradford South, a seat where Judith Cummins beat her Tory opponent by 17% in 2015.

The fear of Labour officials and candidates, particularly in the West Midlands, North East, North West and Yorkshire, is that if the Tories are on course to flip seats like Don Valley, many more could be vulnerable. One official in Yorkshire told Uncut that a string of Morley and Outwoods – the seat Ed Balls lost in 2015 – was on the cards for 2017.
