There were some rural towns in Tennessee iirc a couple years back that decided to save budget by not paying for fire coverage and giving the option for individuals to pay for it. I think they stopped after the fires.

It's because most people are lovely and retarded, you're talking about the same group that voted brexit despite the overwhelming evidence against it and how it would harm them, like of course they're gonna hand victory to the Tories.

If the olds won't vote anyone else and the young won't vote at all then I guess the choice is deal with it or leave the country.

Batten down the hatches and form support groups with friends and family and ride out the coming storm.

Theresa May’s two most trusted aides quit the Conservative party’s general election campaign twice in the past three weeks so they could accompany the prime minister to emergency meetings after the terrorist attacks in Manchester and London, underlining the extraordinary degree to which May has come to depend on them.

Fiona Hill and Nick Timothy stepped down as May’s co-chiefs of staff in Number 10 Downing Street in April to play central roles in the Tory campaign, in line with rules restricting officials’ involvement in elections.

But BuzzFeed News has learned that, at May’s insistence, they were allowed to “temporarily rejoin” the government in the hours after the attack on Manchester and again after the London Bridge attack on Saturday, so they could attend secret intelligence briefings and meetings of the Cobra emergency committee.

Ministers, senior officials, police, and security chiefs were already on hand to advise the prime minister on the government’s response to the attacks, but May wanted her most trusted aides, who have loyally served her since she was home secretary, with her. So they were quietly put back on the government staff. The temporary workaround was cleared by Sue Gray, the powerful Cabinet Office official who acts as the guardian of ethics in Whitehall, because of the extraordinary circumstances.
1) This seems shady and worrying

2) Nick Timothy has the most tosserish hipster beard I've seen in a while

Well its mostly old people that are coming out and voting for the Tories so most of them will be dead by the time the next election rolls around after the Tories privatise the NHS, so theres a good chance of a Labour majority in 2022.

On the other hand, we will be living in an economic wasteland after we turn into a tax haven post-Brexit, so make sure you do some lifting before the next election because you're going to have to build something out of the ashes that we've been left with.

My girlfriend is a Labour activist, and was a councillor candidate. She's in a large number of group chats and stuff involving getting campaigning and getting the vote out on Thursday, so I'd assume she read it there.

Just quickly looked on twitter to see if I could find something "Official" but was struggling, but one person said outside TGI's.

Which is a daft place to do it, but the owners of Buchanan Galleries have made the area around the concert hall steps quasi-private, so Labour may have been advised to avoid it.

I think that leaving is the better choice if you are able, especially if unlike myself, you have a degree (or your skills are not already abundant in Europe and abroad, like mine are being an electrical worker whose highest level qualification is a Higher National Diploma) and the financial backing to make it happen. If we end up having to stay and deal with it, then so be it, but I don't look forward to the day when inflation rises over 30%, a can of baked beans costs £10 and home invasions increase in their frequency, not for valuables, but for edibles. Support groups of family, friends, neighbours and like-minded people are always good, but are also a depressing prospect when a Support Group becomes, of necessity, a local militia of people guarding the stocks of your local Corner Shop and local allotment plots with ersatz pikes and halberds constructed of lengthened and sharpened scaffolding poles, broom handles with knives taped to one end and repurposed gardening implements. All this because a fair proportion of the 52% had to get their bigot out.
