This is really lovely. Theresa May's solution to terror? Completely change the way people live, gutting civil liberties, which incidentally definitely isn't the same as the terrorists winning.

That she is almost certain to still be PM in a weeks time makes we want to just try swimming to Norway and claiming asylum.

(No, but really, people actually believe that Tories make hard choices. They make easy choices because it's not them who rely on the public services they cut. It's gross that this is even a narrative that exists. This country is bad)

The very fact that the choices are almost always harmful to almost everyone paradoxically seems to make them an easier sell. Your average unengaged John Q. Public is going to look at it and hears "Tighten our belts Gordon Broon spent all tha Poonds tough choices have to be made" and he'll say "Well that's an unpleasant policy, they must have good reasons for it." because an awful lot of people genuinely do not comprehend and/or believe that a political party could be deliberately that hateful towards the poor and disabled and so forth. So to rationalize the bad poo poo they see coming out of No. 10 whenever the Tories are there, they convince themselves it's for good reasons.

Oh.

I actually think this is a good thing. It is a sign that aside from a few awkward squad types (which is funny), the PLP might actually ostensibly unite around Corbyn.

Well, aside from the fact he's not going to be PM so that's irrelevant, obviously.

Wow, that is pretty misleading, even for the Sun. I had to read the small print to discover that the speech was given in Trafalgar loving Square and that the only connection with the two undesirables in the thumbnails was that some people were in the crowd who might have had connections to them.

Still, I guess with one day to go, this was the black powder and there's nothing else left to use.

The point is it's not a new attack, nor a shocking revelation. In fact it's much weaker than some of the stuff already thrown at him, merely accusing him of speaking at a rally that was attended by some unpleasant people. For anyone who has seen the size of the rallies he speaks at currently it's not going to change many Labour voting minds.

I think you're underestimating how surface level a huge swathe of voters are. There will be people who were warming to the idea of voting Labour based on May's various cock ups, and that headline in the current climate would easily be enough to put them off.

The people that win this election for either side wont be the Labour voters or Tory voters, it'll be the people that get their politics from front pages like that on both ends of the spectrum and the odd snippet of ITV news.

it's magnified in the wake of the weekend though, and even if it's wishy washy bullshit, it's going to resonate with some Scum readers even if the follow-up story inside said "sorry, this headline is bullshit, here's what actually happened"

Are you genuinely surprised papers like the Sun and the Mail are running anti-Corbyn front pages tomorrow?

They were always gonna do this and they've run extremely similar front pages about him before. I think you're overestimating the impact running the same story again is going to have on the polls, especially when Labour's vote share relies heavily on young people who are not big consumers of these papers.
