Nah the guys he owes money to were the guys wearing black in the black car. That's why they fell for the carbomb.

The other guys who are trying to kill are almost certainly hired by evil Coop. They told the lady that they haven't killed him yet and she passed the message along to evil Coop in jail via that box in Argentina.

Well they probably blame him for their buddie getting blown up too

VVV: oh you're right, I hadn't considered that they were casing it when they drove by the first time. The people he owes money don't necessarily know that's where he was.

No, they're just assholes who cased an abandoned car, came back to check on it the next day, then decided they were free to steal it.

We actually have no info on who is supposed to get the 50k. The assassins clearly aren't, otherwise they wouldn't have been trying to kill Dougie from the get-go. Their mission appears to just be "kill Dougie at first chance."

We don't actually know if the guys watts mentioned were either of the guys staking out the car. It's possible but it's left ambiguous at this point.

We also don't know if the guys that got blowed up were even looking for Dougie. Might have just been random car jackers that saw a car sitting at a vacant house for three days.

After ep 4 I wasn't sure if those guys were hired by Evil Coop or to do with the people Dougie owes money to, but the opening to ep 5 showed they're connected to the box in Argentina thing, so I'd say the former is more likely now.

I think it's more likely the black car guys are related to the owed money than random dudes, the development doesn't exactly seem like a high traffic area. The woman across the street gave me a squatter vibe. They could've shaken down his favorite hoo-ah for the last place she saw him.

There's some big fan theory that Dougie is in like 2007 a la housing crash but I think that's kind of dumb

Like they base it off of that one blackberry and in the same scene there's a computer with Windows 7 running

But every other computer I've seen on the show appears to be running Windows 7 as well

I don't discount the idea of everything in Nevada being some strange alternate timeline created entirely by Bob/Bad Cooper (or even just someone's dream), but him just being in regular 2007 seems a like a stretch. I guess if that Great Northern Key gets mailed back with no issues, that should answer whether the Dougie stuff is in the same timeline as everything else.

And guess what - businesses and government still commonly use Win7. And in 2007 they used XP. That's a dumb theory.

also windows 7 is basically what businesses use now, right? there's massive resistance to early adoption in business, windows 8.x is dogshit, and windows 10 has some fundamental flaws.

it just seems very unlikely that anyone would notice or care about a car sitting in a place like that.

I think it's much more likely that the people Dougie owes a presumable gambling debt to would know where he hangs out / what whores and pimps he knows and get his last known whereabouts from Jade

They are likely there for the same reason the drug lady across the street is. It's a place where they can do shady poo poo with little chance of getting caught.

Ok, fair enough. I guess we'll see if they were the people actually looking for Dougie, or some completely unrelated criminals committing a completely unrelated crime. Only time will tell.

Comedy option: they are the people looking for Dougie, but now they are scared of him because one of their guys blew up. Boss bad guy gets mad at his underlings for not being able to collect on some goofball insurance man and sends another crew to get him, just in time for evil Cooper to arrive and gently caress them up.

Continue hijinks as debtors and evil Cooper are both looking for good Cooper. Sometimes the debtors see idiot good Cooper and move in for the kill, only to be faced with an evil Cooper switcheroo at the last second. Possibly the debtor crew consists of one dumb guy and one angry guy.

Crazy theory here, but the dude that Dougie called liar. This guy is obviously running some insurance racket. Were he and Dougie doing this together? Does that tie into why Dougie owes someone money, and also why he has presumably been spending lots of money or lascivious acts? It also explains a bit why Dougie/Coop knew he was lying, if coop is tapping into Dougies memories.

I don't have a problem with sex workers, but Jade did just dump a dude who had clearly just had some kind of heart attack / stroke at a casino. He was complaining about his arm tingling, then passed out and threw up and was acting bonkers. I don't think I would call that "upstanding." Not that his wife seems to pick up on the situation any better...

I liked both the Wally and Doris scenes because they set up Frank Truman as a man who just doesn't care about your bullshit. He is clearly exasperated by Wally and just "Why do I have to even listen to this." and his responses to everything his wife says is all very straightforward and rational, but his face says he's tired of doing this all for the 1000th time. They might not seem like key scenes in the Twin Peaks story, but they are key scenes in very quickly telling us who exactly Frank Truman (a character we have never seen before) is.

The format is that I'm the fanboy who remembers it all and he's the Lynch skeptic who hasn't watched the show since last decade, so there's a lot of explanation for any other newbies and also debate on the merit of a bunch of stuff.

I won't make these posts if it annoys anyone but I love talking about this show and making this podcast :)

I'm gonna give this a listen tomorrow, cause as much as I can talk on and on about Twin Peaks, I much more like to listen to other people talk about it.

Seems to me like the glass box was built by someone who knew that location was an "exit point" for the black lodge, and wanted to study what came out. I don't think Bob would have any use for such a study.

I really like this idea. It explains the "I've been covering for your rear end - you OWE me" line, because the "covering" could either be Dougie's absence from work for a day or two, or it could be related to their secret scam (or both).

I think how everyone acts around Dougie implies he was a complete piece of poo poo before he got sucked into the Lodge (Janey-E's comment about him having "episodes" might be relevant here). In that light, I think she did more than any normal person would feel obligated to do.

This is reaching now, but the green light that signaled the liar is different then the lodge lights that signaled the jackpots. Green could represent Dougies coat and coop tapping into Dougies memories.
