What's with the Russian and China driving trend of just randomly turning into other traffic? I watch a lot of dash-cam vids and that's what always sticks out. The types of accidents you see in western dashcams vs russian or asian dashcams are quite different, with the later being dominated by people just turning left or right from the wrong lane and immediately being hit by someone in the other lane, or people turning left directly into very obvious oncoming traffic and getting creamed head on or t-boned mid turn. I remember someone was saying that in China and Korea they don't teach you to ever shoulder check when changing lanes or turning, you never check your blindspots, you look forward and drive forward and it's expected other people see what you are doing and either let you in or honk, and you honk to be let in or inform people you are coming through. That explains the huge number of crashes like in the above gif, but it doesn't explain people turning left into oncoming traffic, or trying to pass a truck when they very obviously do not have a gap in opposing traffic.

I thought that those sorts of accidents are common everywhere but you see videos of them from russia and china more often because large amounts of govt corruption = more dashcams

Honestly I wish dashcams were more popular in America with all the great stuff you get from them.

You are always supposed to keep looking forward. What slays me is how cars just drift randomly from lanes to lanes. This happens when I'm swimming as well, not all the time but more than a few times. People will just stop and randomly swim under the laneline and I will just plow into them. I'll ask them "what are you doing" and they just say something like "wow you speak Chinese" or "HALLO" or "I don't know". Like just keep swimming straight. You were swimming straight for the last minute. Why did you decide to randomly alter your course significantly for no apparent reason whatsoever? idgi

It's like that in Taiwan too. All the driving tests take off points for looking around or over your shoulders and some actions are even an instant fail. They believe that every angle can be properly covered by checking mirrors which are the only things you're allowed to look at. The driving test for a car in Taiwan was especially ridiculous. You can just go to the DMV equivalent and take the test if you want, but most people fail it. The test is almost exclusively parking and odd maneuvers and the test parameters are very strict. For all the maneuvers, you have to do it in a single motion without ever stopping. So for the 90 degree back in and parallel parking, you can't stop or readjust. Single motion only. Most U.S. states will let you stop and adjust at least once. Then there's the S. You have to drive through an S without crossing over a boundary line, then you have to reverse back out of it. I guess it's supposed to represent the tiny alleys and mountain passes you might drive through. But the lane is very narrow and the curves tight. So how do people pass? There's a whole industry around it of course. You pay to practice on a replica test course. You don't use your car, you use a provided car. The car has marks on the mirrors that line up with various features on the course so you know when to turn your wheel left or right. And then the government sends testers out to the course once a month and they even let you use the car you practiced in to take the test.

Yeah clearly theyre trying to stay in the car but I love those comments because it shows how many things people take for granted, like the idea that "driving a car = seatbelt" or "see something terrifying ahead of you on road = slam brake"

big time bisexual posted:Having a bad China day? So today is a beautiful day (where I live). The mountains to the north of Shenzhen that divide the city between rich/normal and poor/factory people (north of the mountains being the poor people factory zone) were holding back big rain clouds and thunderheads, as pictured (from my phone camera): While the southern section was about 31-33C/90f, and bright and sunny: So my friends that live north of the mountains were whining about the weather and clouds, while I spent about three hours in the hot sun and sweating like mad. Anyway, I was having a great time sweating it up and getting a much-needed tan, and I walked towards a construction zone in front of an apartment. Some redneck was out powerwashing the bricks in front of the apartment while some other rednecks kanrenao'd his job. I could see him from a distance, as I was going that direction. He would stop whenever someone walked or rode by, since the blast of the water was wide and he's there comfortable in his rubber boots and apron. A woman was about four meters ahead of me. He stops and lets her by and then stares at me for a moment. As I am coming, he qucikly turns the powerwasher back on and starts spraying it pretending to work and moves to block the way in front of me. I stopped and looked if I could find a way around him. One way was the road with construction and a high fence, another way was a mound of rental bikes. The only option was go in a wide arc around him, which seemed fine. I start walking and he immediately follows me with the washer. I tried to dodge and move to the side and he is pretending he doesn't see me, looking away at the road like a loving idiot. He mists my legs and shoes and I jog by, but he practically chased me with it trying to look like he was "working." I was thinking of pushing him, but I realized he has the powerwasher and directly being sprayed with that would probably suck, and result in a fist fight where I am in the wrong, since he looked like he was working when some mean foreigner pushed him. I made it past him and kept walking, thinking whatever water is on me will dry in a couple minutes since it's so hot. I walked about 200m and check my shirt and pants to see the progress and realize he didn't get me with water. It was mud, and he sprayed me with it. My pants and shirt have big splatters of thick mud drops all over them. I was wearing brand new Nikes and the white parts were all muddy. I was so annoyed. Had this happened by a storm, whatever, it wouldn't matter, but it was the deliberate intent of some dipshit, and probably 99% of the reason is because I come from a different place. It was just one of those moments where I was really glad I can and will fly out here, and these people are stuck in their petty society. The rest of my time was fine. Let's see what happens later when I go out again.
