So I've had the Axon 7 for a couple of days now. Is there a known good battery monitor app? I just want to see if I'm getting around the kind of screen-on-time that's expected out of this. e: Is GSam the one people still use? General impressions:

I understand ZTE is pretty good about keeping phones up to date. I'm a bit surprised by how little performance difference you're noticing to the G5+ I gotta say, seeing how the 820 was a top of the line chip just last year.

Last I checked the Axon 7 is still on the March security patch. Specs don't matter when the software experience isn't tuned like a Pixel.

Is there a noticable performance difference between SD 430 and 625? I'm wondering if I should pay the extra €50 for the G5+ (625) or wait until the Nokia 6 (430) comes out on the 20th.

The 625 will have better battery life. It's also faster in general and is supposed to have a better LTE modem, though whether or not you'll notice the difference probably depends on your usage habits.

It's true. When they did push out 7.0 they only updated it to Dec 2016 instead of the Jan 2017 that was current at that time, too.

Are there any companies with a good track record with regard to security updates other than Google and Lenovo?

It's the main reason I mentioned Lenovo I would say Motorola devices probably have better support than most Lenovo devices, but that's not really a guarantee that if you buy a G5+ now you'll be on the latest security update in 6 months.

Like, Samsung can release regular updates, but the carrier has to do it too. For example, Rogers will only release 1 security updates a quarter for Samsung phones and I've seen them delay those, so you're potentially 3+ months out of date at any given time. Not to mention it took 6 months after Samsung finished 7.0 for Rogers to release it to the S7.

I just looked at the list again and the Moto G series isn't even on it, how come the G5+ is so highly recommended in spite of that? Security updates simply not the be all end all?

Then in April I think they updated to the February security patch, and that's been it.

Of course, so are OnePlus and Honor but the thread will endlessly poo poo on any non-Pixel/Moto device so welp

The g5 is cheap enough it can be purchased yearly, offsetting it's lack of updates

I've come across the option of replacing my Nexus 5X, which I find to be kinda slow to open apps and eager to close them, with a Galaxy S7. Would that be a bad idea, seeing as how I would only have a limited time of software support left from the S7? Is the S7 even a meaningful upgrade to the 5X?

The 5x will likely bootloop at some point in the future

From prior experience with Motorola, I would say not to count on timely updates at all. Also, I think their customer support used to be alright but their standards seem to have slipped in the past few years (or plummeted, depending on who you ask).

Moto's been handling the Z and Z Play on Verizon well at least. Both are on May's security update.

I have a job as a delivery driver for a large parcel service. I am using a Nexus 6 on AT&T, is this phone capable, and is there a good app for counting steps/distance walked that won't be screwed up by driving the truck a couple blocks, riding in elevators, etc. Or do I need a smart watch or something?

You could just use Google fit I would assume but you could also buy a Xiaomi mi fit 2 for like twenty bucks

You could keep count and type each stepping session into a spreadsheet.

But you know how many you take. Just count as you walk. "One, two, three. <Drop off package> Four, five, six."

I've had this problem a few times over the past month or so. Clicking on the search bar/pill or swiping left to Now (on a Pixel) both are just blank, and searches do nothing and give no suggestions. It's been pretty infrequent, but once it happens it doesn't go away. Only way I found to fix it is a restart. I'm hoping the Pixel Launcher update that just downloaded will have a fix for it, although I don't even know if it's the launcher causing the issues.

I find it dumb that power saver mode lowers brightness lower than lowest brightness I can manually set. Plus there's even lower brightness that's set after minute of inactivity. Why can't I manually set the brightness to that level?

Unless you use non-cloud based 2FA authenticators. Which you should, since U2F isn't nearly as widespread as it should be yet (then again, neither is 2FA, lol every loving bank ever).

Clearing the google app cache/data doesn't touch your installed apps. So doesn't matter what kind of 2FA you use in this instance.
