Yeah it could be that my expectations are all wrong. 75-80% of a pot of Vallejo model air for 1.5 HGs in that colou sound about rightr?

Do you (or I guess anyone really) prime with Vallejo's polyurethane stuff? I'm learning airbrushing and whereas thinning their regular model color stuff is really easy, I always feel like my primer is too thick or too thin. I just primed a few yellow parts and I felt like it went on very thin and wet. On the flip side I've tried not to thin it too much and it seems to go on much drier looking and finer looking, I guess, and it looks more like what I would expect primer to look like. The issue there is it dries very fast and gives me a cleaning headache.

I know Model Air is pre-thinned, so I've tried the primer both ways.

The Vallejo primer seems to work best with just a single drop of vallejo's own flow improver and no thinning whatsoever. I've mostly switched to unthinned Badger Stynylrez as it's much easier to sand and a bit more durable. When my living situation permits it, I use lacquer primers like Tamiya surface or Mr. Surfacer 1500 because they are tougher and spray much better, but you need to really have a good way of airing out a room first because they smell like a nail polish rack fell over.

Thanks - I have some flow improver and was thinking about using it. I guess no big loss since this is my first paintjob and I'm still learning. Hating how I have to manage with paint drying so often but since I live in a relatively small apartment, even with a respirator/facemask I don't feel comfortable trying out enamels or lacquers.

I just switched to Stynylrez for my latest batch of painting and it definitely cleans up much easier than the Vallejo PU I'd been using before. Echoing a little bit of flow improver going a long way with it too!

I had to throw in the classic synthwave skyline look somehow.

Weird panel lining is fun as hell. I used enamel steel to panel line a Russian Green Zaku and it gave it a killer look. The same effect makes molded details in weapons pop out nicely. It's the same method as normal enamel pin washing, just with other colors.

Everything should be molded color correct, though you may have nub cleanup in some places if they didn't hide them.

I just got my Mr. Nipper GX nippers in and gave 'em a quick test and analysis in comparison to the Gundam Planet nippers. The tl;dr: there's not an appreciable enough difference to buy one to replace your existing other. Both are very good at what they do. I prefer GP but that's solely out of my personal preference to support a small business.

Literally two days later, Model Legend announces their own  I'm debating finishing mine, I like the features and can ultimately make it more detailed, but the thing will probably cost like a hundred bucks to print (I severely underestimated how big a scale dainsleif would be :v:)

On the upside this further reinforces my theory that if I start working on an MG G-Self, somebody else will release one inside a couple months, ultimately saving me a hell of a lot of time and money and giving me the satisfaction of using the universe's sense of humor to my own advantage.

Any chance there's an opinion on which Vallejo paint works best for Char pink and red? I want to do a fully shaded/highlighted build of my MG Char Zaku and I'd really like to get away with just using colors in the bottle rather than custom blending shades if I can.

For the red the main two are Model Air Italian Red for the super Ferrari look and Fire Red for a less ostentatious one. That's all I can help with though cos I'm colourblind and pink is a particular weakness so I can only recommend checking the colour charts on their website.

I did a mix of Vallejo air for my char's gelgoog. It was:

50% white
30% red
20% yellow.

Here's how it turned out. Base coat was a dark grey tamiya.

I was hoping for single colors in order to play with shading but I can always use the base color and +black or +white. No biggie.

Speaking of which, anyone have an MG Zaku II 2.0 they can part out? I need parts H13, H25, and H26. Worst-case scenario I can part out an existing one that I have but it's my first-ever MG, I'm hesitant to cannibalize it. D:

If you have these parts, let me know how much you want shipped to 07083.

Unfortunately the current base design is too intricate (mostly due to the articulation) to be printable on a home printer, but I'm definitely going to try to make a simplified version once I finish that is home printable. Might take a bit however, currently I'm swinging hard in the other direction to take full advantage of industrial printers:

In the meantime though there are already a couple models out there made for home printing, this is the best one I've run across so far: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2252500
