Maybe. I got my '13 Audi A4 for half of new MSRP this year. CTSs of the same year, miles and comparable trim level were going for several thousand $ more. Used cars are still really expensive :(

And goddamn Camry etc. prices were also way higher than one would expect.

The Korean press embargo on the Stinger is up. The 3.3t can scoot from 0 to 100 kph in 4.9 seconds (!)

The other videos seems to show a lot of K900 rubbing off on the Stinger, and a fastback roof that doesn't intrude in passenger headroom nearly as much as the A5 / 4 Series sportbacks.

Weight figures are for the stock 19" tire, drop another 10kg for the 18" tire. These are also Korea specifications, not sure how much will change between the Korean domestic market and other markets.

3.3 V6 Turbo AWD: 1855kg (~4090 lbs)
3.3 V6 Turbo RWD: 1785kg (~3935 lbs)
2.0 I4 Turbo AWD: 1740kg (~3835 lbs)
2.0 I4 Turbo RWD: 1670kg (~3680 lbs)

Yeah, pretty much. I found his lap eventually: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xbtZUS3Vww&t=315s

Then, very scientifically, I compared some min corner and top straight speeds:

code:
		mx5 Hellcat
straight	88	111
corner1 37	34
corner2 43	43
corner3 42	38
hairpin 45	42
...
Back straight	98	117
Last corner	34	34
So... not particularly surprising. It'd be interesting to see how the times/speed changes as you add more power, perhaps the fiata would be a good candidate as you could just crank up the boost to various degrees.

E: Although theoretically, improving handling further should have a better return (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2S6MJt0998) so I wonder if you could catch up with the hellcat with only tires and suspension mods.

Dammit I knew that 3935 figure I saw wasn't even the AWD model. Why is this thing so drat fat? Being RWD makes it about 200lbs heavier than an Optima with the same engine, okay. Then bumping up to 3.3l tt adds 250lbs? I guess it's not super unreasonable but I really don't want a 4,000lbs car with 19" wheels on the kind of lovely streets I sometimes deal with.

Edit: vv but a new Mustang GT has a hell of a lot more power doesn't it? I mean the Imapala SS weighs similar but that's a lot more powerful too, and maybe a little larger? The answer to your question would be I don't know because to see what's comparable I'd have to see their pricing in America first. I was hoping that in the world of 4 door RWD cars with under 400hp this would be better than whatever else is available. If it's just the same that doesn't really get me to buy one, at least new.

After checking I'm actually seeing the current GT's weight as 3705 lbs. With 435hp and still getting 25mpg highway? That's pretty good. Hell if they made a Mustang GT Wagon I'd have one of those.

How big is that thing? A EU market RWD 340 weights like 1600kg, 540 is 1670 and 1735 in AWD.

Yeah this isn't a stripped out sports car, it's a well equipped grand touring sedan that strikes a balance between performance and comfort. The fact that it weighs around 4K lbs is completely unsurprising.

I was recently watching the motortrend video on the new Ferrari gtc4lusso and that thing weighs 4500lbs. Why? Because putting luxury comfort feature and safety equipment into a medium sized performance car makes it heavy but it's worth it if you want a grand tourer. They talked about how the doors actually feel nice when you close them and how it has double pane glass to quiet down the interior. Not things you do when you are trying to shave weight but perfect if you want to spend all day bombing down the road in it.

Kia Stinger KDM specs:
Length: 4830 mm
Width: 1870 mm
Height: 1400 mm
Wheelbase: 2905 mm

BMW 3 series:
Length: 4624mm
Width: 1811mm
Height: 1429mm
Wheelbase: 2810mm

BMW 5 series:
Length: 4907mm
Width: 1860mm
Height: 1464mm
Wheelbase: 2968mm

So somewhere inbetween the 3 and 5 series.

The base Stinger is 35,000,000 KRW ($31140 USD), the V6 is 44,600,000 KRW ($39681 USD), and AWD is a 2,500,000 KRW ($2222 USD) option. Base V6 gets Brembo brakes, top trim of the V6 gets a mechanical LSD.

Yeah I realize this is the problem I have, and obviously that's not something I can appreciate from just reading about the car. This car is supposed to be taking on luxury brands but I don't actually want a luxury car. I just want my current Optima to be RWD and have ~350hp. I heard that Kia are making more stripper-spec models for Australia with cloth seats but obviously we won't get anything like that here.

Small single turbo and big twin turbo engines, rwd or awd, basic models or ones with every luxury and safety tech feature. It's not surprising you can pack an extra 700lbs into a car with options.

I mean let's not beat around the bush, it's impressive the BMWs are that light. There's got to be a lot of carbon and aluminum to get cars with all those luxury features at those weights. The stinger looks cool, but I imagine they aren't quite 5 series well equipped.

poo poo, I remember passing corvettes and 993cabs with point-bys in my base model manual mini cooper in the twisty bits only to have them blast by me on the two straights. The one time I saw a guy actually do well with a corvette on the track had his brake pedal sink to the floor and him go off track because of it. I've always thought corvettes were cars for fat old men to drive to and from the icehouse every sunday (same with most harleys). That day did little to change that opinion. Most of them are to scared of the car's off-idle power to really give it the beans.
