Though I did relish the moment she said "He keeps making me vote for this Goldsmith guy who doesn't seem to win." My husband is like that too. He never bothered voting until we got together and now he always asks me who he should vote for before he goes. It's a bit weird and I used to tell him to make his own mind up but then he'd just say party names while staring intently at me so just telling him who I voted for is quicker.

My other half is kind of checked out of politics coming from a very tory dad. I think she's make a good commie if I could get her to sit down and read a little bit about it, I hate lecturing her on it though, feel like a oval office. She'd probably vote labour if she could get registered.

Voted Labour in Thanet South. Might actually win this time, given that the Tory MP is currently under investigation for electoral fraud... What's amazed me most about UKMT today is finding out there are other goons from Thanet.

Well gents I was just reading the Telegraph and they're reporting that the Tories have won by over 100 seats and that Maggie Thatcher is back from the dead and the Poors are currently being loaded onto busses directly from the estates and shipped to the work houses/protein rendering plants. You might as well just stay home, Communists! Wot wot!

Yeah, jokes about killing all the olds aside, I personally don't place the bulk of the blame on older Brits for holding the regressive views that many of them tend to do. There is literally a massive industry focused exclusively on targetting those people and bombarding them 24/7 with propaganda that utterly flatters them (HARD WORKING FAMILIES LIKE YOU THAT GRAFTED ALL YOUR LIFE AND EARNED YOUR PENSION, NEVER CLAIMED BENEFITS LIKE THOSE SKIVERS, etc), discourages critical thinking, and demonises literally everyone that is an 'other' - be it immigrants, foreigners, muslims, the EU, the left, young people, poor people, those on benefits, etc. Without access to other information/perspectives, those narratives must be incredibly seductive and hard to jettison. Yes, that young person who is telling you its in your interests to vote Labour might make some nice sounding arguments, but they don't know what its like in the REAL WORLD! The REAL REASON the NHS is buckling is not Tory cuts, but because of too many immigrants straining it! It says so in literally all the papers, and here is an anecdotal example about a muslim family on benefits with 20 kids to back it up. Don't get me wrong. Its WRONG that they hold these views at all - but with a billion-dollar industry bombarding them with propaganda non-stop, I understand why many of them do. Without challenging the power of the Mail, the Sun, the Express, etc, its going to be a near impossible battle to reach them.
