Bloody mental! mandate just means "more total Conservative votes, so you can afford to lose a few more" e.g. if Republicans had 55-59 seats in the Senate, they could ram AHCA through no problem, but because they have a slim majority, they can only afford to lose 3 votes.

Even if the Tories hold the majority after the results come in, it is very very likely the Tories will gain at most 1 or 2 seats. There's no way this turns out to have been a good decision by May.
