That Swindon result is very, very promising for Team Jam. This is going to be the election night that in future, we compare all the others to. "Was it as exciting/interesting/unpredictable/bizarre as 2017?"

Blair hosed all that because of being all 'i'm labour but totally cool with rich people because i'm a neoliberal' which is why pissflaps is a reluctant labour voter, because he loved Blair but doesn't care about poor people, etc. In short, it's complicated.

For your sake Britain, I really really hope this doesn't turn out like America where both the Tories and Labor benefit from the Brexit effect/UKIP collapse, but the benefit to the Tories is in marginal places (Midwest US -> North England) that flips seats, but Labour's benefits are all in places they already do well in (California -> London)

Darth Windu posted:Is the U.K. like the states but reversed where the rednecks all live in the north and the cool coastal elites are in the south, I really want to know this but i feel awkward asking my British roommates and my Irish roommate is out and might not know anyway Yes and no. We don't have rednecks. We don't have an equivalent, much like you don't have chavs. The north is economically deprived by design. Thatcher closed most of our industry and nothing replaced it. The south has old money and rich people who commute into London. The people in the north aren't stupid rednecks, they're just really loving poor and not very good at blaming the right people. Currently, the average working class blames everything on immigrants and "elites". Interestingly enough the Tories are not seen as the elite and have managed to portray themselves as fighting for the common man. It's really really stupid.
